Yay, love the 80s!!
( not the perms though, that was a big mistake)

RedToothBrush · 20/05/2021 21:43

@ChelseaChop

Does anyone else think the U.K. must have the best TV presenters in Europe?

Why are the presenters so wooden? Is it because they are speaking English as a second language? Or do they not pay enough?

If the UK ever wins, the jokes would actually be funny!

My Dutch friend watches the BBC rather than Dutch TV every year.

I've watched it abroad through Eurovision.tv before and its really odd without the British commentary...

Raahh · 20/05/2021 21:43

Mother and Sonia, in 93.

The Uk went through quite a phase of 'coming second'. Grin

JaneJeffer · 20/05/2021 21:44

There she is the Gina G beater Grin

CliffsofMohair · 20/05/2021 21:44

There was a time I could sing all of the French lyrics to the Celine Dion song 🎧 🎶

mathanxiety · 20/05/2021 21:44

Fingers crossed for
Iceland
Finland
Moldova
Albania
Serbia
Bulgaria
Portugal
San Marino
And maybe Denmark

Switzerland will probably get in but I think it's pretty meh.

By some miracle of modernity, I am watching all of this on a Greek live stream and I can report that their ads are pretty bad.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 20/05/2021 21:44

They should have ditched the dancers for this and just had cyclists

I genuinely misread that as 'cystitis'.

Katie Boyle was our presenter for about twenty years when I was a child/teenager/young adult in her floaty chiffon evening frocks and clipped bi-lingual tones, @ChelseaChop. I could imagine her being a laugh off stage though.

Raahh · 20/05/2021 21:45

Nicole is one of my favourite Eurovision winners.

dillite · 20/05/2021 21:46

I think that part of the wooden presenters is that they need to appeal / not offend half of the world. Whereas our local presenters know the local humor and culture and can therefore appease the locals.

Unescorted · 20/05/2021 21:47

Cherrypi Albinoni's Adagio in G Minor

Terry Wogan made us a lot of enemies for years after with his 'Dr Death & The Tooth Fairy' comment!

If they ever decided to have the same presenter every year, it has to be Petra Mede. She's amazing.

the80sweregreat · 20/05/2021 21:48

Didn't Katie Boyle have a fling with the Duke of Edinburgh once ( allegedly?)
I'm sure I read it somewhere.
James Newman : he'll be the one coming in last I'm sure.

EmphaticPeriod · 20/05/2021 21:48

Happy to lose
Czech Rep
Austria
Moldova
Albania
Bulgaria
Latvia
but I am spoilt for choice tonight!

I watched it with my boyfriend at the time. They were on first and he said "That's the winner" without hearing the others.
JaneJeffer · 20/05/2021 21:48

@Raahh

Nicole is one of my favourite Eurovision winners.
I thought she was a big let down after Bucks Fizz the year before Grin
EmphaticPeriod · 20/05/2021 21:49

Oh no! Poor Duncan Sad

Thank you!

Cherrypi Albinoni's Adagio in G Minor
Thank you. I think I played it in orchestra at school many moons ago.
banivani · 20/05/2021 21:50

I absolutely agree re presenters! Why are most countries so incredibly wooden and unprofessional it’s embarrassing.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 20/05/2021 21:50

Thirteen years on, I still regularly have Rudolfo Chikilicuatre's entry for Spain pop into my head.

Also for Spain, I still really like Ruth Lorenzo's Dancing In The Rain.

JaneJeffer · 20/05/2021 21:50

Look at this gorgeous woman!
