The one about Livia Drusilla. How do you pronounce 'Domina'? I would say DOM-in-ah but someone was talking about it on the radio this morning and she said do-MEEN-ah.

I heard Tom Holland the classical historian talking about it and he pronounced it like you OP and I guess he'd know

It looks good - she was a fascinating woman

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 12/05/2021 13:15

I don’t know much about her, but I think that for the most part the history that was written about her was from accounts of people who didn’t like her. It’ll be interesting to see if the series goes for the drama (murders, affairs etc) or for a more balanced approach.

I think I assumed that domina would be pronounced like dominate. I suppose there’s no way to know what the pronunciation was, just best guesses.

According to the Spartacus tv show it's DOmina

Cooroo · 12/05/2021 23:06

She was an amazing character in I Claudius. If they can match that and Rome I'd be very happy. And definitely DOMina.

Ooh is this about Augustus' wife? So many Livias, Drusillas, Livillas in that time period I can't keep track Blush

Binglebong · 16/05/2021 19:28

I've watched the first two episodes and the jury is out. I'm annoyed that they are about to change to older actors now I've started recognising people though!

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 16/05/2021 21:06

How has her accent changed along with ageing 10 years??

Binglebong · 16/05/2021 21:13

I've only seen the coming-up-next with the new actor but I wondered that too. Very odd. I thought the woman who did eps one and two was brilliant so I'll miss her.

Boredsillyathome · 13/06/2021 18:38

I've just watched all episodes, thought it was really good lots of intrigue, plotting and politics I do hope they make a second season

NeedWineNow · 13/06/2021 19:02

Me and DH loved it. It made us both want to read more about her and that period. Hope there is a second series.

ConstantlyCooking · 10/08/2023 23:42

Reviving this thread. I have seen there's a second series but it only seems to be available in the US. Has anyone heard about it coming to any U.K. streaming services? (I only have Now and Netflix so might have missed trailers).

Boredsillyathome · 11/08/2023 11:22

It should be coming on Sky Atlantic from what I have read online, but so far nothing

WolfFoxHare · 11/08/2023 13:26

I read somewhere it’ll be out on NowTV/Sky early September - I have 8/9th in my head, but I can’t find where I read it to confirm.

ConstantlyCooking · 12/08/2023 17:24

Thank you! I was looking forward to watching it during the summer holidays when I saw July advertised!
I hope they don't get to the death of Augustus in series 2!

Parentofatween · 29/08/2023 10:04

New series starting 13th September on Sky! 😊

WolfFoxHare · 30/08/2023 10:07

Yay! I just saw an ad for it. Can't wait.

Boredsillyathome · 27/09/2023 13:19

Has anyone been watching, I've really enjoyed it so far but get so confused with all the characters and who is related to who!

WolfFoxHare · 27/09/2023 18:52

I’ve been watching - I started episode 1 of season 2 and realised I didn’t know who anyone was aside from Livia, Gaius and Agrippa, so I went back and rewatched all of season 1. I’ve got to say, I’m enjoying it so much. It’s one of my favourite things on tv at the moment.

Boredsillyathome · 28/09/2023 09:46

Same I can't wait for the next episodes, so much drama and intrigue!
