I like Virgin River - what else would I like?!

I also like Chesapeake Shores, Soundtrack, The Queen's Gambit, The Durrells, Good Trouble. I'd like to find another series on Netflix or iPlayer that has a pleasant vibe to it - nice people in a nice place! I know this might sound rather cheesy, and maybe is, but I just like relaxing to that kind of thing!

I tried and didn't particularly like: Firefly Lane, Motherland, New Girl, The Gilmore Girls, Midnight Diner.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Sweet Magnolias ?

QueenPaw · 07/05/2021 20:52

Heartland?
Northern rescue
Have you seen Anne with an E?

musicinspring1 · 07/05/2021 20:52

Bit random but I like the Durrells and also like Death in Paradise ...

MelissaVonStressel · 07/05/2021 21:08

Resident Alien.

Or Hart Of Dixie is pretty much Virgin River - even has the same Doctor.

jay55 · 07/05/2021 21:15

When calls the heart is pretty cheesy but has a similar vibe.

Blueballoon3 · 07/05/2021 21:21

Thank you very much for the replies! Sounds like some good suggestions!

I did like Sweet Magnolias! Looking forward to Series 2! :)

I tried Anne with an E - had mixed feelings about it!

@musicinspring1 Does Death in Paradise involved quite a lot of death/violence? Or hardly any death?! (Weird question, I know!)

Also Northern Rescue and Hart of Dixie

Blueballoon3 · 07/05/2021 21:32

@mnahmnah Whereabouts is Hart of Dixie online, please? I just had a look on Netflix and iplayer and couldn't find it! Thanks!

My go to bed & watch crap show for ages has been Chesapeake shores & it ended for me last night. I was in shock as there's only 6 episodes in the last season, so I need something new. This is a good list.

My absolute favourite is Shtisel. It's a slow burner but fascinating & unforgettable.

mnahmnah · 07/05/2021 21:49

I think it’s on Prime actually. Sorry! Alternatively DVDs cheap off eBay.

Seeline · 07/05/2021 21:52

I've really enjoyed Offspring. Aussie series about an obstetrician, her dysfunctional family, colleagues and chaotic lovelife. Seven series too

Rainbows89 · 07/05/2021 21:56

Oh definitely ‘When calls the heart’!!!

If you want nice people in a nice
Place that would be perfect for you. I recently watched it and loved it!

3CCC · 07/05/2021 21:57

This is Us- perhaps a bit deeper than other stuff mentioned

But I love that and I love everything else on this thread

Melissa con Stressel
going to put Resident Alien on my to watch list Smile

3CCC · 07/05/2021 21:58

Sorry just seen Netflix or Iplayer only

I enjoyed the Bold Type

CurbsideProphet · 07/05/2021 22:34

Oh I really hope Hart of Dixie is on Prime as I used to love it when the first couple of series were shown on E4 (I think)many years ago!

I was also going to suggest Sweet Magnolias and Where Calls The Heart 🙂

cherrypiepie · 07/05/2021 22:39

Came on to say this is us. Also love virgin river in a lame kind of way (reminded me of a show called providence from about 20 years ago) death in paradise is a very light hearted detective show.

Thingywhatsit · 07/05/2021 22:39

I liked queens gambit and virgin river... also liked bridgerton and handmaids tale. The latter took me a few episodes to get into it but I got hooked big time! Luckily I was late to the party on that one so watched 3 seasons in one huge binge watch....

Blueballoon3 · 08/05/2021 07:51

Thank you so much for the suggestions! Really looking forward to trying them out! Smile

Sisters - Aussie series...
If you enjoy family drama, I can highly recommend Bloodline.

musicinspring1 · 08/05/2021 08:41

@Blueballoon3 Death in Paradise involves a death in the opening credits but then a gentle hour of pondering who did it in beautiful surroundings - and the death is more ‘Midsommer Murders’ than ‘Seven’ if that makes sense ?!?

horseyrider · 09/05/2021 15:55

Howabout 'Mountain Rescue' on Walter Presents? Swedish, but has subtitles. Easy to watch, lots of beautiful scenery.

Dashel · 09/05/2021 22:31

If you want something very American twee and where nothing bad happens try Good Witch on Netflix, there are some films before the tv show.

If you like horses then try Heartland on Netflix, it makes me want to buy a ranch and learn to ride. This is very slightly grittier than Good Witch, but only because Good Witch is exceptionally harmless. This is a family who run a ranch and do horse whispering, there are always a good ending and the scenery is amazing.

There is also Grace and Frankie which is a little more risqué, but only because the others are so harmless. It’s a comedy about two later life divorcees staring Jane Fonda. There is talk of drugs and sex but no nudity or anything too offensive.

CurbsideProphet · 09/05/2021 23:07

I've just remembered Jane The Virgin. I absolutely loved it 🙂
