I've never watched it, just seen all the hype.

Was last nights finale worth the wait?

It isn’t over. There will “definately” be another series.

DramaAlpaca · 03/05/2021 19:31

Nope. It was disappointing Sad

The only good thing is that there were so many loose ends left untied that they might make another series. Hopefully.

ssd · 03/05/2021 20:03

That's a shame. Did they say who H was, i thought that was the mystery?

They did. The disappointing part was who H turned out to be!

I'm not saying, in case you decide to watch it. It's worth a watch, despite yesterday's revelation.

I'm watching spiral just now. Its brilliant.

Yes, it was. It felt disappointing last night but I've just watched it again and really 'got' it. Very much hope there's another series.

I don't think there will be another series. This one wasn't in the same league as earlier series, but still very entertaining. I thought the reasoning behind H being who they were was sound, and Jed Mercurio was firing a clearly political shot 💥 👍

Ellmau · 04/05/2021 23:55

It wasn't awful but it was a bit disappointing. Will be OK if they tie up the loose ends in series 7.

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 05/05/2021 06:02

Depends on your point of view. DS thought it was a comedy.

cariadlet · 05/05/2021 06:43

Initially disappointing because H wasn't some big Bond villain pulling everyone's strings.

On reflection, very satisfying.

Somebody who didn't have any great scheme but was just a greedy opportunist. Plus very senior people sweeping corruption under the carpet because it wasn't good for the police's image. All very believable.

Look at the current government. I don't imagine any of them started their political careers with the aim of becoming corrupt so that they could become as rich as possible and look after their mates.

Take what has happened with Covid. We have Dido Harding (a business woman who had faced calls to resign when she was at Talk Talk and was on the board of the Jockey Club) being appointed head of Track and Trace by Matt Hancock who also has close links with horse racing. Government contracts were given to companies with no experience of producing PPE but whose owners were friends or neighbours of Ministers. Countless other examples.

midsomermurderess · 05/05/2021 12:08

Why ask? It's run for some 10 years, 6 series, the denouement could be referenced back to series 1. Who is going to talk you through that. Talk about pointlessly jumping on a bandwagon when the horses have been now been fed and stabled. Is this some kind of FOMO?

I thought it was excellent. Subtle, nuanced and entirely satisfactory considering the story arc started ten years ago.
There were plenty of shoot outs and car chases earlier on in the season and the finale called for a different approach to bring the threads together.
The acting performances were excellent across the board.

Jed Mercurio has done a Twitter Q&A today, expanding on his creative choices and the reasoning behind them. Not that he had to, there is no finer writer writing TV drama today.

Ted telling Carmichael to “carry the fire” was the line of the series for me.

I can’t wait to watch them all again from the beginning.
