After seeing so many references to this show on MN and on FB, I searched and found the first (?) five series on Netflix here (Canada). I am assuming it's a very popular and good show based on all the raving and number of threads. How many series are there altogether and should we watch it?

There are six series (although the sixth is only just finishing over here) and YES, you absolutely should watch them all - multiple times!

DramaAlpaca · 01/05/2021 03:23

Absolutely you should watch it. It's simply superb television. You will be gripped from start to finish.

AuntieStella · 01/05/2021 06:32

Yes, lots of fans.

Watch the first series, and if you like it keep going.

TheDinosaurTrain · 01/05/2021 06:40

I’d never watched it either, but started the first series a few weeks ago and am now onto the 4th - best tv I’ve watched in ages!

GillBiggeloesHair · 01/05/2021 06:43

I'm so jealous of anyone who has not seen it all yet.

Besom · 01/05/2021 06:49

Jesus Mary and Joseph and the wee donkey - why would you not? It's gripping, complex and clever with great characters and cast.

Thanks all. We will give it a try! DH has deigned to watch it even though he doesn't really like police procedurals most of the time.

Quite a lot of it is UK specific - for examples and without spoiling it, one of the major characters is Northern Irish and you gradually learn more about his experiences in the Troubles.

Assuming you’re Canadian yourself I’d be fascinated to know what you make of it.

This is what I'd do. Watch season 1, then listen to the season 1 recap on Shrine of Duty. Then do the same with seasons 2-4. It really dissects everything, making references to precious characters or story arcs. Then watch season 5 and listen to each episode recap on Shrine (they only started during season 5 so thays the only one that you'll get the episode recap for. They did the season recap during lockdown, after they rewatched them). Then, when done, listen to the whole season recap.
Lucky you though, you're in for a treat!

Bloodypunkrockers · 01/05/2021 22:05

Lucky you

Series 2 and 3 are outstanding

Furries · 01/05/2021 22:48

Lucky, Lucky you! You should definitely watch it. It’s blooming awesome, we are all eagerly awaiting the season 6 finale tomorrow night.

Very jealous that you get to binge watch it all - enjoy!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 02/05/2021 19:48

Well we watched Ep 1 of Series 1 last night and I am hooked! It's very intense isn't it. Gritty. DH liked it too.

Yes, Canadian but lived in London for 13 years plus my DM is English originally. It will be interesting to see how much we learn!

Thanks for the tip @runwithme. Is Shrine of Duty a podcast?

I've just found it on Spotify!
