Yes it's probably flogging a dead horse but bloody hell, after the year we've had I need some escapism!

I couldn’t agree more!

Karmakamelion · 19/04/2021 18:47

But the last one was sooooo bad

ZenNudist · 19/04/2021 18:47

Yay! I really enjoyed the last one. What is there left to do?

KillingMeDeftly · 19/04/2021 18:50

No word on whether Dame Maggie will be back. I'm guessing not, given the end of the last film, but what is Downton without the Dowager Duchess??

I guess "entire cast" would include her but I still have my doubts!

I loved it! Watched it twice.

I am pleased there will be another film, I want to see them all a bit older and the new children, etc. I hope they have the same cast.

Rubbish. It was fab.

Can’t wait for this.

JaneJeffer · 19/04/2021 21:25

Yaaayyy! Last film I went to before the fucking pandemic. It was gorgeous.

Lazierdays · 19/04/2021 21:26

Ohhhh I’m so pleased to hear this news! Bloody love Downton.

I’m surprised the article mentions Maggie Smith being in it. Surely the ending of the last film implied she wouldn’t be?

I hope the social distancing doesn’t spoil it like it is so many other shows. But of course they need to keep the actors and actresses safe too, especially as some of the cast are older.

Maryann1975 · 19/04/2021 21:41

I can’t even remember it was so long ago I watched it - what happened to the Dowager?

KillingMeDeftly · 19/04/2021 21:49

She told Mary at the end of the film that she'd been to see a doctor and she didn't have much longer to live. Mind you, if it was the same doc who told Matthew he'd never walk again then she's probably still hale and hearty!

Ah this is great news! There was a cracking thread recently about the most ridiculous Downton Abbey storylines that had me tickled for days. Worth a read for some nostalgia

ValerieMorghulis · 19/04/2021 22:03

In time for Christmas. Perfect!

BackforGood · 19/04/2021 22:10

Fab news.

But the last one was sooooo bad

..... if you are talking about realism, I don't think this started with the film Grin
But, as OP says, some wonderful, opulent escapism. Smile

Standrewsschool · 20/04/2021 18:03

Yippee! What era isit being set in?

I wrote that one when I was sitting waiting for my 12 week scan, to take my mind off the nerves! I think most of us agreed that cousin Patrick was the worst storyline in the whole saga Grin

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 21/04/2021 00:47

Cousin Patrick and his conveniently placed bandages Grin

I think it was closely followed by the ridiculous storyline of the film where Branson falls for a maid...who happens to be a super rich heiress Hmm how convenient Grin

@ValerieMorghulis

In time for Christmas. Perfect!
I don't want to wait until Christmas, I want it now! Am I greedy?
LyndaSnellsSniff · 21/04/2021 19:48

I can't wait for this!

When I think back to watching the last film in the cinema, it seems like a lifetime ago. Just thinking about this new film makes me feel a bit carefree and hopeful.

Yippeeeee!

dementedma · 21/04/2021 21:04

The last one about the visit of the King was shite, and I'm a big Downton fan.

Maggiesfarm · 21/04/2021 23:27

I loved it.

For a great socialist Branson seems to fall on his feet with financing from the landed gentry with almost unbelievable regularity Grin
KillingMeDeftly · 22/04/2021 08:19

There was talk for about an episode and a half about Tom going into politics (and presumably ending up a Labour MP) but that plot point quickly fell by the wayside.

As much as I love Downton continuity is not always it’s a greatest point. I’m there for the costumes. Love it.
