Telly addicts

Ackley Bridge demoted to teen tv - starting tonight at 6pm C4 (very cross)

I was a secret fan of Ackley Bridge when it first started and then bean a thread on telly addicts after getting very heartbroken over loss of favourite character. Sad

And found many of the stories lines interesting and entertaining.

But now they have moved it to 6pm fear they will not have the same balance of adult and teen story lines.

But need to know that Kaneez will be okay!

DS and I watched all the last series this year. V pleased it’s back on.

MrsMariaReynolds · 19/04/2021 17:17

Oh no! :( That is disappointing.

Although, to be fair, it won't be the same without Nas. I'm assuming she's not in the new series, (and Missy, obviously...)

stumbledin · 19/04/2021 17:45

I was sort of hoping we might get reports from Oxford(?) from Nas - or a zoom catch up with her mum, or Kaneez goes to Oxford!

They are all on All 4, i have been binge watching this afternoon and watched the first six. Rob James Collier is the obvious highlight of the show!

AliceBlueGown · 20/04/2021 16:59

Love Rob James Collier and really enjoyed the last series. It always made me smile. Are they looking for a hollyoaks alternative - hope not - it was too good for that.

EvilPea · 20/04/2021 17:01

Why did they move it? It was brilliant.
I’m still in shock about missy

stumbledin · 20/04/2021 17:23

First episode was terrible. Awful mission statement style. Adults just characatures.

Real shame that what was quite a sophisticated but not too earnest programme has been dumbed down.

Quote: Ackley Bridge now forms a double bill with Hollyoaks on weeknights, which has been described as a smart move. Both shows bring in a similar teen audience and it is hoped the change in schedule will help out with viewership ratings.

Caroline Hollick, Head of Channel 4 Drama, said: "We’ve put younger viewers squarely at the heart of our new strategy, making each episode a snappy 30 minutes and moving the time slot to the brand-new time of 6pm. Sandwiched between The Simpsons and Hollyoaks, Channel 4 will truly own teatime!"

And judging by the first episode they think teens want slick but facile programmes.

It's shit, I'm very disappointed. Used to be an hour long at 8pm, only watched episode 1 and I don't think I want to watch any more 😩

MrsMariaReynolds · 22/04/2021 17:34

Agreed, it was a bit crap. I've watched the first 2 episodes, not sure I'll bother with the rest.

Meredusoleil · 23/04/2021 19:54

I've just watched the final one for this week and I'm like, wtaf!?! Why is Fizza such a bitch to poor Kayla? And how is Johnny the only boy in Ackley Bridge in their eyes? How can he not see how much Kayla likes him 🤦🏻‍♀️

ferryblue · 24/04/2021 04:08

I think the probably know it’s dead it the water with most of the fan favourites gone and are just throwing one last thing at it to see if they can drag it out. The general consensus is that it’s a massive flop and I doubt we’ll see series 5.

ferryblue · 24/04/2021 04:08

*I think they probably know it’s dead in the water

Papergirl1968 · 26/04/2021 22:29

Kaneez is the star of the show, but she's a bit lost without Nas.

Papergirl1968 · 26/04/2021 22:32

Oh, I thought the new headteacher looked familiar. Of course, he was in Downton. Smile

Meredusoleil · 27/04/2021 00:26

Yes I love her.

But what a nightmare MIL. No wonder Rashid never settled down before 😳

Papergirl1968 · 27/04/2021 22:03

MIL also doesn't look old enough to be his DM!

Tiktokersmiracle · 28/04/2021 06:00

I've watched it all, and previous series.
It did start slow but got better as it went on.

It's always hard when the original cast in a school based drama have to move on- the alternative of them all still being in sixth form when they look about 35 is worse. (Although the guy playing Johnny is 22!)

I did miss the hour long eps though. I didn't get why Chloe was totally changed as a character. In previous series she would've been mates with Fizza but she faded into Marina's shadow and was a hanger-on.

Kayla was a really likeable character. Thought it brave they also featured a traveller family, don't see that normalised often.
I hope they do series 5 but go back to hour long weekly eps now they know the characters work.

Timeisavirtue · 28/04/2021 22:46

I like a It, but it will never be as good as Waterloo road!

TaraR2020 · 28/04/2021 23:54

I couldn't watch it after they killed Missy off - heartbreaking!

Some brilliant characters and actors in it though.

EvilPea · 29/04/2021 07:46

Yes @Tiktokersmiracle
There’s no way Chloe would be in the mean girls!!

Keeping2ChevronsApart · 10/05/2021 22:47

I didn't know it had been moved to an earlier slot as watched on catch-up. Turned off halfway thought it was terrible. Such a shame I was really excited about the new series 🙁
