Grey's Anatomy - How Have I Missed This!

A couple of weeks ago DH was flicking through the tv series trying to find a new series for us to watch. We decided to give Grey's Anatomy a go as it seems to have been around for ages. OMG!! how did we miss this when it first started? It's fabulous and the great thing is we are only at the end of series 2 and it looks as though there are 17 series in total! I don't think we are going to leave the house for two months 😀

Does it stay this good (we have just watched the episode with Izzy and the heart patient 😢😢😢). I can't believe a series can stay this good for 17 series? I'm thinking of you TWD.

I would say it stays good for about 10 series, then fluctuates. But by then you’re invested, so you have to keep going regardless of how much it annoys you!

Annasgirl · 15/04/2021 12:13

Hi OP, I missed this too the first time around - mainly because I had spent 10 years of my life watching ER and with a new baby on the way, decided I did not have another 10 years to give to a TV programme!!

But, 2 months ago, DD (now a teenager) and I started watching it - we are on Season 4 and are totally addicted. It is brilliant - I feel like they are my colleagues (due to WFH I meet so few actual real life people now!!!) Grin.

That was a wonderful episode. We are still in the amazing era - apparently it goes south around Season 10 or 11 - but by then, we will have had months of entertainment. I almost feel like I work in a hospital now Grin.

Well it sounds like we still have a lot of "good" viewing time left then. I also agree about feeing like I know them all 😀 I sooo love George but don't think the Dr he's dating at the moment is the right one for him. She looks like she is going to eat him alive!

Can't wait until this evening so we can watch another couple of episodes!

I've watched the whole thing twice, such a good show

SpanishFly · 15/04/2021 23:50

I'm so jealous at those of you watching for the first time. So many huge and brilliant storylines to see.
And you're right, it doesn't stay that good for 17 series 😅

Callie?

It's really great till season 10. I think I gave up at season 14 but can't recall.

You have a lot to look forward to!

AhmenGwendolyn · 15/04/2021 23:57

I feel the same about desperate housewives, I'm on series 3 of so many and love watching it.

Icequeen01 · 16/04/2021 00:07

Yes Callie. In the middle of watching an episode at the moment and she's becoming incredibly annoying! 😀

I used to love Desperate Housewives as well. Great series!

I'm late to the party also. It's brilliant. I've been raving about it to everyone. I'm only on Season 3 so I've a long way to go. I feel like the main characters are my friends which sounds daft. But with the Covid restrictions, I'm seeing more of them of them than my actual friends.

SpanishFly · 17/04/2021 09:36

I think I asked on the series 17 thread, but got no replies, so I'll ask on here too. To all of you watching the earlier series, could you tell me when all the slowed-down cover versions started to play endlessly throughout each episode?

McSleepy · 18/04/2021 18:15

Love Greys! Excited for you that you get to watch it for the first time. I agree with others, it’s not as good as it used to be now but you get so heavily invested it doesn’t really matter. Plus check out the spin off private practice (you may need to buy this on dvd as I’ve not seen it anywhere but it often pops up on eBay pretty cheaply) and the current spin off Station 19

starsinyourpies · 18/04/2021 18:51

I'm on season 14, still good but not as good as the early series!

pastabest · 18/04/2021 19:14

It lags for a few series after about series 10 where it starts to be less medical and a bit more about personal lives and 'events' but persevere because it gets better again in more recent series.

I would say I'm jealous you are getting to watch it for the first time but I've watched series 1-8 sooo many times and enjoy it just as much each time.

MrsFionaCharming · 18/04/2021 19:14

@SpanishFly I don’t know when it started, but I wish it hadn’t. The music of the first few series was so great.

ILoveAnOwl · 18/04/2021 19:15

There's also the spin off series 'Private Practise' for you to enjoy. It's like Grey's Anatomy in the sun.

SnuggleWuggle · 18/04/2021 19:16

I’ve just started recently too! Early on series 4 and loving it

Boph · 18/04/2021 19:20

When my DC were early teens we all watched this as a family. Got to around season 10 and gave up.
I noticed s17 was on and watched the first one. Meredith the Miserable still the same as ever. A few familiar faces but missing others.
The most striking thing is the way they speak. I think of it as Shonda Rimes speech, a kind of sing song. There was a legal series by Shonda Rimes and they all spoke the same, instantly noticeable as Greys style.

milinhas · 18/04/2021 19:23

Greys is amazing until Season 6, then pretty good until Season 10ish, then I gave up in exasperation. You still have loads of good bits to come though! I second watching the spin off Private Practice too.

bluebluezoo · 18/04/2021 19:29

It has it’s moments, but it’s no ER.

Some of it is way over the top and would be instant dismissal. There are a lot of convenient brain tumours Hmm

KFleming · 18/04/2021 19:32

Oh I’m jealous of you watching it for the first time!
As others have said, first 10 seasons are best. But I’m very invested now so still going strong on season 17!

ChickensForTheHound · 18/04/2021 19:35

The problem is that you get sucked in by the time it's gone downhill and you have to watch to see who dies next.

I often think it should be renamed from Greys Anatomy to The Moral of the Story due to how they can't do a normal story without a moral.

Urgh yes! It’s always contained social issues, but done in a way to let you form your own opinion. Now they just have the characters monologue from the message down your throat.
Xyzzzzz · 18/04/2021 20:14

I enjoy greys I still watch but it’s passed it’s prime. I loved season 1/2. From season 10 it went downhill for me. Season 14 has been the funniest since the golden period for me. When Shonda totally left the show you could tell. The witty tone isn’t there, the music changed to covers, the mix between comedy and drama has gone. But I still watch I think it’s mainly habit now. My fave character is Cristina.

Micah · 18/04/2021 20:24

Does it stay this good (we have just watched the episode with Izzy and the heart patient 😢😢😢)

Tbf I think this was the one that ended it for me. There’s no way she wouldn’t be up before the GMC, facing the sack at the very least, possibly even attempt murder. All the “gang” would be looking at serious consequences too.

I did get sucked in but some of it is pure fantasy. Not realistic at all.

StealthPolarBear · 18/04/2021 20:28

We started watching it a few months ago, now on series 16 :o
Yes it's mad what they all seem to get away with.
On the plus side I'm fairly convinced I could clip an aneurysm now, if needed (I'm a data analyst)
