Seaspiracy, anyone watched it? I am disgusted and shocked.

I will never ever eat fish again. The plastic, the deaths, the lies and backhanders, the slave trade. I am gobsmacked. The little blue tick of “sustainable fishing” means absolutely fuck all and our seas are being decimated beyond any scale that we are led to believe.

Honestly shocked that people don’t already know this in 2021. It isn’t new that we’re ruining the planet. It’s just if you’ve seen it on Netflix or not.

Yes. Learnt so much. Shocked at the cover ups and misinformation. Will never eat fish again.

My husband is rarely moved by TV but he looked visibly upset when he watched it. Unfortunately I don't think it's something that can be changed quickly but it makes you realise how much man ruins the planet.

LivingOnTheVeg · 05/04/2021 08:16

I’ve not watched it as I’m already vegan, but I know Cowspiracy made a lot of people go vegan overnight, so I’m hoping this programme will too.

MazekeenSmith · 05/04/2021 08:20

@Mybobowler

I watched it and while I totally support the premise, I thought the journey from "plastic pollution is bad" to "so you need to be a vegan" was a bit of an own goal. Changing our behaviour - particularly behaviour as deeply entrenched and culturally significant as what we eat - won't be achieved by making people feel impotent. The film should have done more to make its audience feel informed and empowered. This documentary just made me feel depressed and guilty.
Impotent? You mean because people want to do something but don't want to do the only thing that will make a difference, ie stop eating fish?? If you don't want to stop eating fish then own that. Don't get annoyed because there isn't anything else you can do about the situation.

Same. I don't feel the need to put myself through it but I really hope people take it on board.

We eat a low meat and low fish diet and are generally of the view that it's better if everyone made smaller changes rather than expecting everyone to be perfectly green. After watching Seaspiracy, we're moving to only eating line caught fish that's been caught by people we know.

What it highlighted to me is how in all areas there are big companies greenwashing in order to keep making billions from destroying the planet.

The only time I have seen a seal in the Mediterranean was chugging past a fish farm in a boat. There was one floating in the water, dead. It had been shot, presumably to stop it raiding the fish stocks. Further on I passed a dead dolphin, also shot.
Obviously this is illegal practice, but no one is Policing it.

bishbashbosh99 · 05/04/2021 08:39

@LolaSmiles we are the same. Will never give up full but limited to twice a week now and vegetarian the rest.

sashh · 05/04/2021 08:50

The only fish I’d really miss is smoked salmon! I haven’t seen it though.

That would probably be farmed. But that also has problems.

Lavera9 · 05/04/2021 08:58

I can’t stop thinking about it and feeling so angry! I even had bad dreams about it.

I do feel empowered to stop eating fish. I actually ordered some vegan omega 3 supplements - they’re plastic free also.

I actually don’t eat meat already, but because I don’t - and never have - liked it. Although I always liked fish. Oh well! Time to give up the salmon!

Wobblesandchickuns · 05/04/2021 09:13

@supercee

There's a meme going about on how and why it wasn't called ConspiraSEA and I can't get past that.

Sorry nothing helpful to add. I do plan on watching it.

Same!
winched · 05/04/2021 23:24

I watched it tonight. I don't plan to eat fish again and seriously considering going vegetarian and ultimately vegan.

It was shocking.

Lavera9 · 06/04/2021 08:06

It was so shocking wasn’t it, winched? I honestly can’t stop thinking about it Sad

I hope it makes a difference.
