Where can I watch Un Village Francais?

Is this available in the UK? Can't find it on Amazon, Netflix, iPlayer or Sky. I'm sure I would enjoy it - anyone know where to find it other than purchasing a physical DVD?

Bump, anyone??

Puntosareus · 02/04/2021 08:12

Possibly YouTube?

UneAstuce · 02/04/2021 08:37

Thank you!!! Off to check...
I never normally think of YouTube

It's not available on YouTube. I don't think it's available anywhere which is a shame.

I don't think you can even get a dvd with english subtitles...I tried a while back

GrapeLipBalm · 02/04/2021 17:46

Is that the one narrated by Tcheky Karyo?

GrapeLipBalm · 02/04/2021 17:47

Sorry its Wild Tales from the Village I'm thinking of

UneAstuce · 02/04/2021 19:48

I'm going to ask DD1 - she knows about this sort of stuff

I will report back!

This looks a great series OP so I have hunted around and it seems that even if you buy the DVD (not cheap) it's not compatible with most UK DVD players.

If you find out anything further I would be really interested to know.

CatChant · 04/04/2021 00:47

Oh, I'd like to know too.

Someone recommended it on a thread a few months ago and I asked my DD to find it for me. No luck as yet, sadly.

UneAstuce · 04/04/2021 11:29

Reporting back - my DD has drawn a blank too.

It looks so good doesn't it!

Seems Netflix has it but only if you're in the US -
bummer Sad

It really does sound fascinating. It's won all sorts of awards and it's not a period of French history one hears that much about so it's bizarre that it's not available. And disappointing.

Fingers crossed someone rectifies the omission.

GreenClock · 04/04/2021 22:22

I would like to watch this too. What a cast!

cortex10 · 04/04/2021 22:31

It was on Netflix about five years ago but hasn't been repeated since as far as I'm aware. I wanted to watch it again so ended up buying the DVDs with subtitles on eBay (they came from France) a couple of months ago but also had to buy a multi region player to watch them so not a cheap option.

TheHobbitMum · 04/04/2021 22:42

I've found it, it's on Moviesjoy. If you want to use the website, you'll have 2 pop ups you can just close them and go back to what you want to watch

.

CatChant · 04/04/2021 23:31

Squee!

Thank you HobbitMum. May dragons never trouble your doorstep. I daren't click on it now in case I stay up half the night but I am rubbing my hands with glee for tomorrow. Smile

TheHobbitMum · 04/04/2021 23:47

You are very welcome, Enjoy! Smile

TheHobbitMum · 04/04/2021 23:52

Don't worry about the pop ups just close straight away and it only does it 2/3 times

UneAstuce · 05/04/2021 08:48

@TheHobbitMum Thank you thank you - you total ⭐️

💐 💐 💐

I'm also not going to click the link yet - saving for a little later !

One question - I assume it has the English subtitles???

Amazing series !

CatChant · 07/04/2021 00:21

I watched the first episode (with English subtitles) tonight. Annoyingly, the computer kept freezing and buffering every couple of minutes, but despite the interruptions I was riveted. Heartbreaking, unsettling, terrifying and so, so good. I loved it and I can't believe it's not readily available in the UK. Still it's worth doing battle with the Circle of Doom to watch it.

UneAstuce · 07/04/2021 13:22

I ended up purchasing express VPN so I can watch from U.S. Amazon prime (or anywhere else in the world for that matter). It was £10 for the month but can cancel anytime. I figured it was cheaper than buying DVDs which probably wouldn't even work in the UK anyway, that's how I justified it!

The reason for this is that watching on the site posted earlier wouldn't work on my iPad, and on the PC weirdly there were no subtitles and I don't want to sit in front of PC anyway - much prefer iPad.

Anyway the quality is excellent and no buffering.

I've actually watched the first 7 episodes already Blush
Yes it is brilliant- perhaps we should start a discussion thread !

OP posts:
CatChant · 08/04/2021 01:30

Thank you for the tip about the express VPN, UneAstuce. We now have a month's worth of our own (courtesy of DD, who knows about such things) so we can take advantage of the free trial for students Amazon Prime kept offering her, to watch without any buffering or messages from would-be friendly strangers.

So I have re-watched episode one and watched episode two. It is so gripping and so harrowing and I ended up shouting in horror at the screen when the nun wanted to take the baby. I don't think I could take the excitement of seven episodes at once.

Thank you! Thank you! I'm on season 4 now. I'm really enjoying it although I still feel that the actor who played Gilou in Spiral is under cover in this... Yes, there are pop-ups but I can deal with those.
