It's only been on in Wales, I think, but it's been really good. The dd's have really enjoyed it, as well as me, and it's been a real eyeopener seeing how hard life was in the mining communities of the 1920's.

For those of you not in Wales, you can see what I'm talking about here

I have watched it once or twice. I wish I had time to watch more as it looks really interesting. Are you in Wales?

I'm loving it and full of admiration for the families. The children seem to be having the best time, and the lo's look adorable in the clothes with dirty cherubic faces.

Is it the last one tonight?

emsiewill · 09/11/2007 16:02

Last one, and it's an hour long.

Yes, we love the little boy with his pemanently dirty face.

The children remind me of pictures of my parents who were 2 and 6 in 1927, they look as if the details are just right. God though, imagine washing by hand for 2 adults and six children. I haven't seen many episodes, do the other women help her?

The last one is at 8.30 tonight on BBC 1 in Wales - but if you've got digital tv you'll be able to pick it up anywhere in the UK.
Really enjoyed it - gave our kids an idea of what life used to be like in Wales...I'm old enough to remember living in a house with no inside loo or bathroom and my miner dad having to bath in a tin bath in front of an open fire.

Was I the only one crying my way through this? I wish it had gone on for longer...

No, DH and I saw it the other night.
Close to home - Yorkshire , not Welsh mining stock here.

I'm in London and it's also on Saturday evenings. Is very good. My capacity to moan about my relatively cushy life never ceases to amaze me!!

Working class poverty took many forms, all of them horrendous.
