Is anyone else watching this? They're asking a bunch of kids how old they think women in the 50s are - of course they think older!! And they're not allowed to smile and have to wear shapeless clothes it seems...

Yes I thought that.
However they are my age group and I have to say none of my friends look as old as them.
I look older but I’m the poorest of the lot. Money really helps with ageing and it’s not about affording Botox.

MoonCatcher · 18/03/2021 21:44

Those clothes the stylist is putting them in, are they supposed to be fashionable or flattering?

Fembot123 · 18/03/2021 21:44

I thought Suzanne was early 50’s and she is 50. I’m always jealous of the free dental care they get 😁

MeadowHay · 18/03/2021 21:53

Finding this odd so far.

Firstly asking loads of what looked like very young students to guess the age of an older woman, obviously like PP said they would overestimate. Encouraging them to make negative comments about their appearance. Then one of them being taught to engage in self love mantras and being told to love the way they look Confused after previously encouraging members of the public to criticise their looks?

Also find it odd that the woman with the teenage daughter is all like 'I need to promote self-love to set a good example for my daughter' and then proceeding to use Botox and other invasive cosmetic procedures - is that sending her daughter the message she wanted?

Interestingly I'm in my late twenties and I placed both women around the age of 55 which for one was only 1 year out and the other only a few yrs out. So I don't think either looked super older than their age to start with.

Have you never seen it before, it’s been on for years.

How does money help with ageing - is it just less ageing stress comes with not having money worries?

Misty9 · 18/03/2021 22:06

I'm torn about the message being that how you look is important above all else... Especially that message being reinforced to teenage daughters. That said, we are an image obsessed society and feeling you look good is generally positive for mental health. Not sure how they'd maintain their new looks over time though, they'd been dressed for a night out.

I think it's more to your genes. My mum is 66 this year and has hardly any wrinkles which the two ladies had.

Crossing everything that my Mum has handed those Gene's to me.

PuppyMonkey · 18/03/2021 22:09

Yikes the clothes were hideous though.Confused

Agree
Thewinterofdiscontent · 18/03/2021 22:19

Clearly good genes help. Certain face shapes and red haired people tend to age better.
Stress definitely shows on people’s faces though.
Money helps with that but also with confidence. I bet if you put a load of 50 year olds in dressing gowns you could spot the ones with money and ones without.

Redact · 19/03/2021 06:37

Agree with everyone who said the clothes were hideous. The clothes were awful and I thought ageing too. I'm also jealous of the teeth work, they make a huge difference.

happinessischocolate · 19/03/2021 06:44

I used to live this programme when it just relied on hair, make up and clothing to make them look younger, then they started with the teeth work and the Botox etc and it got ridiculous.

HmmmWhatUserName · 19/03/2021 06:47

The clothes were really ageing in my humble opinion, I thought the stylist needed a stylist!

I do love this programme though, you can spot the smokers a mile off.

I agree is is unfair asking students to age a woman stood in the street, no make up, baggy clothes and horrendous posture.

It helps you pay for hair, teeth, skin, makeup, clothes of course.

Botox, fullers, facials, better quality make up and skincare, better hair. It's obvious surely.

I was referring to this comment which says it's not Botox it's money.
50but17inside · 19/03/2021 09:27

The clothes were just hideous and so unflattering. It was joke value. Just imagine going through that whole ordeal and then opening your eyes to find yourself in a red polyester catsuit and beige granny shoes 😂😂😂

RedHotChiliChips · 19/03/2021 09:36

I was thinking exactly the same!! Asking (really) young people how old they looked as well as making them look as drab as possible.

And the clothing, just awful. Did Channel 5 buy a joblot of pleather trousers and polyester jumpsuits and now need to shift them somehow... I'm 48 and would never wear any of those clothes they showed last night.

IcelandThree · 19/03/2021 09:43

Agree on the clothing - oversized satin shirts, pleather leggings, all-over velvet? I'm unfashionable and 51 and wouldn't wear any of that (not because I'm unfashionable...I just have better taste than that even though my bar is low).

BunnyRuddington · 19/03/2021 16:43

I think they've always done that haven't they? A friend of a friend was one of the first few and she had Botox, Veneers and laser eye surgery.

shumway · 19/03/2021 16:46

The velvet was hideous.

YorkshireTerror · 20/03/2021 23:34

Oh lord the outfits. Can’t they find a decent stylist? It’s like she’s gone out of her way to find the most awful crap she can lay her hands on. Where even sells that stuff.

I hope the people they feature have the money to maintain their new more youthful appearances because it won’t come cheap. We just have to take the presenters word about the new verdict on their ages at the end because they don’t show any clips of the public guessing after the makeovers. They could say anything really and we wouldn’t be any the wiser.

The main thing that’s needed is a real stylist.

JoanWilderbeast · 21/03/2021 21:29

I don't understand why they coloured the police officers lovely hair only to style it in a way they could have done without colouring it. The clothes were always the weakest link, IMO. Instead of suggesting stylising normal life clothes they always go down the whatever nonsense is currently trendy route.

KnowlWay · 23/03/2021 09:50

Where was the lovely make up artist Hannah Martin? I love the make up bits but there was nothing. She was in the credits.
