My friend and I have been hung up on this for three days (thanks lockdown). I've googled every which way possible, I've posted in Reddit and IMDB, I've asked every movie and TV obsessive that I know - no joy.
We both remember watching something with a male computer geek character that was obsessed with Japan. He was a white American guy but his whole apartment was decorated in Japanese style, he wore traditional Japanese clothing, had adopted a Japanese name and had a Japanese girlfriend - she answers the door when the main character (we believe a cop/agent/lawyer) goes to visit. He helps the main character in exchange for immunity from an impending prosecution that would have seen him spend the rest of his life in jail. The main character cuts some kind of deal because this geek guy is the only one who can help.
WHAT FILM OR SHOW IS THIS CHARACTER FROM?!! I can’t take it anymore 😂 haha.
