We're watching mainly because we were eating and couldn't be bothered to turn over, plus the final episode of Bloodlands is on after it.

Big item on "Dad cars" on Mother's Day Hmm.

It's not a national holiday with strict 24h observance you know.

I'm enjoying it - the mucking around and the bittersweet nostalgia.

Jellykat · 14/03/2021 21:01

I love these 3 together, have had tears rolling down my face for most of it Grin

Sittinonthesand · 14/03/2021 21:55

I really enjoyed it - unexpectedly found myself blubbing, much to the amusement of dh, who was shedding a few tears himself a couple of minutes later.

coastergirl · 14/03/2021 22:12

I loved it. I love the three together, and I'm especially a "fan" of Freddie Flintoff 😍 I find it hilarious!

miserablecat · 14/03/2021 22:22

We all loved it.
Surprised how touching about the memories of their dads were.

ineedaholidaynow · 14/03/2021 22:24

I shed a tear too, and I'm not normally a fan of Top Gear

FinnRussell · 14/03/2021 22:29

It was lovely. Chris Harris had me in tears. Who wouldn't want a bit of Freddie on a Sunday night. Best Top Gear line up ever.

GillBiggeloe · 14/03/2021 22:31

I thought it was sweet. DH and youngest son were chuckling away. Made me wish I'd had a dad!

FrankiesKnuckle · 14/03/2021 22:34

Shocker - I'm female, I'm a mother and I love cars (especially old fords, I was picturing my dads brown Sierra as they got their cars)
Mother's day treat for me, not keen on Freddie's curtains though.

GrumpySausage · 14/03/2021 22:35

I thought it was brilliant. Genuinely good fun and the chemistry between the lads is great. So much better than Matt Le Blanc/Chris Evans era.

The 'dad's car' section was great and got me and DH reminiscing.

scrivette · 14/03/2021 22:38

It was really good, I welled up a couple of times too.

I love watching these three together, they really have gelled and look like they are having so much fun.

Am very glad it's back, a good end to Mothers Day and they said Happy Mothers Day at the end!

That Lamborghini though... stunning!

SomethingWycked · 14/03/2021 22:39

10 year old DS & I watched it & it was great- he didn't try & sneak looks at his mobile once! Not much on these days we can both enjoy so pleased there is another 9 episodes 😀

Nith · 15/03/2021 00:05

I enjoyed it, though I would never have gone out of my way to put it on. I the current three presenters make a very good combination and love the way they've given the lie to the perception that no-one could replace Clarkson et al.

Princessdebthe1st · 15/03/2021 00:15

It was the best part of Mother's day for DD and I. We planned our day around it and it didn't disappoint. Can't wait for the rest of the series. Top Gear specials on IPlayer/Netflix/Prime have helped us both through lockdown.

thecatsthecats · 15/03/2021 15:08

@miserablecat

We all loved it. Surprised how touching about the memories of their dads were.
A small and cynical part of me thought that it was incredibly smart to tap into the feelings many of us will have about missing loved ones.

But the rest of me was just trying to keep it together. Especially since I grew up in the Lakes, so all the places they were driving around were literally my childhood - and they used a tiny snippet of a rarely played Queen song I love called Father to Son too.

EternalOptimist7 · 15/03/2021 15:16

Love the Paddy/Freddie/Chris combo! They’re so funny & really seem to genuinely get on.

thenightsky · 15/03/2021 15:21

DH gave a little sob at one point when he saw the Cortina. His dad always drove a Cortina and it was also the first car we had when we got married in 1980.

I'm not normally keen on Top Gear as it got a bit too slap stick for me and there was some over the top bullying of Chris in the 1st season. But last night's was by the far the best I've seen in years. I hope they keep up the standard.

Parkandride · 15/03/2021 15:21

I really enjoyed it, also had a reminisce with DH and a nice conversation about genuine fond memories rather than #makingmemories contrived ones. Very pleased it's back on, always makes me laugh during the end of the weekend slump

LadyCatStark · 15/03/2021 15:28

We loved it. Love the 3 of them together and hope they continue with this line up for many years. Also love that there are 2 northerners and that northern places have features heavily in their programmes (although maybe that’s because they can’t go abroad). We paddleboard near the Windermere ferry on that side of the lake and we were shouting directions at the TV 😂.

ExcusesAndAccusations · 15/03/2021 15:32

I enjoyed it but want to know much more about Chris’s rally-driving mum.

Standrewsschool · 15/03/2021 18:36

These three work really well together amd have refreshed the programme.

My dh was reminiscing about his dad’s cars as well.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 21/03/2021 18:48

I love Top Gear. And I love these three on it.

The barley sugars. 😢

Thank god Freddie was channelling Kurtan to lighten the mood after the dad bit. Got a wee bit teary.
