Is there anything as good as Hilda?!

Hello! First time post in this section. My five yr old absolutely loves Hilda and so do I, frankly. Problem is it's kind of ruined all other children's TV. Is there anything else that is anywhere near as good? I can't stand the super twee, loud American paw patrol/pj masks type stuff. Would love to hear your recommendations - can be BBC, Netflix, Amazon prime. Thanks!

me and DH love Hilda we were squealing at the cliffhanger ending of the last season. my 7yr old was hugely into henry danger this time last year when he was 5 the world revolved round hey duggee on cbeebies cannot recomend the stick badge episode highly enough. Phineus and Ferb and the new ducktails are good if you have disney+ and netflix has most of the studio ghibli films which are good family viewing

I love Hey Duggee! I don't know Henry Danger or Phineas and Ferb, will give those a go, thank you. He's currently into Danger Mouse which is pretty good. I absolutely love the Studio Ghibli ones too but my son has been resistant... Thanks for responding and sorry for the delay!

I have some but they’re on Disney+ I’m afraid:

Gravity Falls - a cartoon about a brother and sister who go and stay with their uncle in Gravity Falls where there are all kinds of strange goings-on. A bit like Eerie Indiana or Round the Twist but in cartoon form.

Big City Greens: not sure how to describe this but I’m quite happy to watch this endlessly. About a country bumpkin family who relocate to the city. Funny and bizarre.

Teen Titans Go!: teen superheroes living together. Lots of pop culture references and catchy songs.

Agree with Phineas and Ferb.

I'm so glad you posted this as we LOVE Hilda in our house and I've been wondering if there was anything out there we had missed.

As PP said above, Studio Ghibli is fab (some might not be age appropriate yet though so be wary) - I'd recommend My Neighbour Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service and Ponyo.

The only other thing I can think of is the Moomins! We watched some of the old ones on YouTube, but there was a new series on Sky (I think?).

I caught a bit of this the other day and they were singing a catchy song about MLMs!

Aw, Hilda is my DP and DD's "thing".

She also really likes teen titans. Depending on whether you can tolerate the "relentlessly educational" slant, we also like Justin Time Go, Cleo and Cuqin, and Earth to Luna, tho that may be gone now.
Hilda is very special though.
Dd is weirdly into smurfs! And She Ra, the new version is pretty good.

JuniLoolaPalooza · 07/04/2021 22:33

Oh and True, on netflix, though the shrill voices do my head in after a while.

Extrapepperoni · 07/04/2021 22:33

Never heard of Hilda! Will check it out. DD currently loves Go Dog Go and Gabby's Dollhouse on Netflix.

So many good suggestions here! Thanks all! My friend just gave me her disney login so I can check those out, darkdarknight.

I think I tried She-Ra last year and it was a bit too old for him then, but I'll give it another go.

Big Moomins books fans here, covetingthepreciousthings! We tried to find the new Sky version but haven't had any luck yet. Maybe I'll try again.

We also like Storybots on Netflix, and he liked Puffin Rock last year although now claims it's too babyish

So I tried to find it earlier.. it's not on Netflix, it's on BBC iplayer but appears to be in Welsh!? The only place I could get it was on Amazon Prime - paid £6.99 for the series. It's so lovely though.
