Quite excited for this to come to real telly because I am the only person I know who’s ever watched it - it was on AMC which came as part of my BT package a couple of years ago and it’s one of the best things I’ve seen in ages.

It’s about a Victorian naval expedition searching for the North West Passage but has a bit of a horror twist on the real world events - it’s harrowing in parts so you have to be feeling quite strong, but honestly the characterisation and the acting is breathtakingly good - I fell in love with so many of the characters.

Ciaran Hinds, Jared Harris and Tobias Menzies are the senior leads all playing a blinder.

This is the best series I have watched for time. It resonated with me so long after. I also went on a bit of a rabbit hole reading about this after and found a great doc from the 80s on YouTube where they excavated the bodies of first three that died before the ships became ice locked. Will link to it later on

Who was the one Crozier found scarcely alive towards the end who had all the piercings through his face?

WhiskersPete · 05/04/2021 17:44

The one with the piercings was Jonathan I think. When the bodies were eventually recovered in real life that's how they found one of them so it was written into the script! Terrifying.

I'm sure I remember reading about the discovery of the ships a few years ago, and the oddest thing was that they found that several of the bodies were female. But then DNA degrades over time so was not conclusive...

WhiskersPete · 05/04/2021 18:28

Oh yes I read about that too. Apparently it wasn't uncommon for women to pretend to be men to join the navy in those days!

Frequentflier · 05/04/2021 18:30

Why did Little have piercings? was it the Inuit?

You're right, it wasn't. I can appreciate the longing for freedom! Fascinating, if sad and gruesome event all round.

It was Edward Little the-terror.fandom.com/wiki/Edward_Little

Oh sorry yes, Edward not Jonathan.
