Anyone want to talk? I found it by accident the other night and am literally using every spare minute to watch it. Utterly compelling!

I don’t know what to think....

I was the same. Watched it just before I had my baby and then spent ages researching it.

Really not sure, I feel he’s innocent but he could just be an absolute weirdo who can lie well.

VickyBHF · 12/02/2021 16:40

havent watched it yet but did really enjoy the podcast!

Whirlwind14 · 12/02/2021 16:44

Oh is there a podcast?!

@Julianamechange that’s how I felt about him. Something not quite right and weird but I didn’t get that feeling about him when he was revisited at the appeal.

The Ratliff lady falling down the stairs in Germany? Surely that’s not coincidence? He must be really unlucky....

I’ve just read he had a 15year relationship with the Director of the documentary!!

Have a Google about that it could’ve been an ‘Owl’ that killed her.

Yes it's brilliant!!!!! Search bbc beyond reasonable doubt, it's amazing
sparklingstars12 · 12/02/2021 17:55

I loved this documentary. I still have no idea what the truth is. I think it's the 911 call that feels so forced to me. Either way I think there is definitely reasonable doubt.

medebourne · 12/02/2021 17:59

I think this is one of the most gripping things I've ever seen!

It's not just him who's intriguing, the whole family are strange. I have forgotten the details but aren't two of the children actually adopted from the woman in Germany who also died on the stairs?

Also I wondered if one of his sons had killed the mother and the whole family were covering up for him. He had gone off the rails at about that time and I think had a conviction for violence (may have got details wrong)

thenightsky · 12/02/2021 18:05

Oh, I started watching this quite by accident as I was flicking around Netflix. Ended up totally obsessed and had to binge the whole lot over 3 nights. DH wandered in on the 3rd episode and got sucked into it too.

I have mixed feelings about him. Like a PP I thought the 911 call seemed a little rehearsed. Also, his reaction when he heard that one of his gentleman friends (for want of a better word) had said they had had sex. He tried to act surprised, but then it came out it was true anyway.

Also, didn't the youngest girl change her mind about his guilt too?

I had a lot of admiration for his defence lawyer. That man worked his socks off!

Whirlwind14 · 12/02/2021 18:57

@thenightsky- yes! That was a total over reaction. His youngest daughter seemed to think something was amiss. Strange how they portrayed themselves as such a close knit family but Kathleen’s daughter didn’t buy into his innocence.

Could be something that was a cover up with the bits involved. At the start I think it was mentioned that Todd was out but his car was in the drive...

The blood was congealed when 911 arrived.
The German lady being exhumed with a verdict of murder.
The women from Germany who witnessed the first fall.
His very laidback attitude
The family debt (I’ve read just now)
Kathleen owned the house

And.... I’ve just read there was strangulation!!! What’s that all about?!

I saw this when it was first made - it went out on BBC 4, and I couldn't believe it was real, it was playing out like a drama. I was convinced of his guilt.

SavoyCabbage · 12/02/2021 19:05

Guilty as sin! I can never understand why people think he could be innocent. The documentary was completely from his side and he still seemed guilty!

Whirlwind14 · 12/02/2021 21:16

I also think that Martha is his biological daughter. She looks so much like Clayton...

Oh yes!

Agreed.

rc22 · 13/02/2021 18:16

He was a very strange man. I thought he seemed guilty but then the loyalty his family showed him made me think he must be innocent although i noticed that the brother who was originally supported him disappeared part way through and a different brother appeared. No reason was given for this.

Whirlwind14 · 13/02/2021 20:20

@rc22 the loyalty was astonishing but I do think there were moments when they had their doubts. There was a strange dynamic between them all.

Oh yes, the brother. The second one first appeared the night before the trial but the other, the lawyer (?) did seem to disappear

Just read about the owl theory. Weird!

OP posts:
thenightsky · 13/02/2021 22:55

Owl theory was so desperate wasn't it? Really?

gaggiagirl · 13/02/2021 23:00

I dunno, owls are savage.....or is it swans??. A swan would break your arm!
