I have a (stupid) question about the masked singer

It's probably a stupid question, anyway. I'm not in UK and have no context for this show. So, I just watched series 2 episode 1 last night. It was fun! Got to the end and was looking forward to episode 2 which I ASSUMED would be the 5 remaining singers battling it out, then 4, then 3... etc

But instead the trailer for episode 2 showed 6 NEW masked singers and I don't understand!

Is it the remaining 5 singers dressed up in new costumes? Or are there 6 new singers, in which case what was the point of the first episode and how do we ever get a winner?

And (OBVIOUSLY) please don't do spoilers. I've only seen one episode. I just want to understand how it works. Thank you!

Hi, it starts off with 12 masked singers, so 6 in episode 1 and a new 6 in episode 2. Then I think episodes 3 and 4 had the remaining 5 and 5. So episode 5 had all 8 who had made it through so far.
