A very quick question about Wire in the Blood, on Amazon Prime Video

Hi. I'm watching this on Amazon Prime on my TV (not a Smart TV). My hearing isn't the best and I'm struggling a bit. Does anyone know if subtitles are available for this programme? I've been able to access them no problem for other programmes I've watched in the past on Prime (I usually watch Netflix), but it doesn't seem to be available for this.
Is it just me??
Thanks Smile

Yes It’s a bit mumbled,
Looking at it, appears to have subtitles

Is it because you can't understand some of the geordie accents? Grin

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 07/02/2021 17:40

You do get attuned to it quickly

Cocolapew · 07/02/2021 17:41

DH is watching it and he says there isn't.

bloodyhairy · 07/02/2021 19:12

Definitely not the accents! I've become so accustomed to having the subtitles on when I'm watching TV, and I'm struggling without.

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee

I don't have that image. We probably have vastly different tellies!

It's just a shame as the prog looks so very promising.

I don't think there are subtitles for it, don't see an option for them.

The screenshot above is for a different show.

bloodyhairy · 08/02/2021 01:11

Thanks all. Looks like I'll just have to crank the volume up Grin

Sometimes it depends on how you are accessing the programme. Are you using a BT Box, or something else? I know that BT don’t support subtitles for programmes on NOW TV, so I have to watch that via my iPad, which does. So it might be a problem with how you access the programme, rather than your TV.

bloodyhairy · 08/02/2021 20:38

Hi. Yes, BT box. Subtitles have never been a problem before. Could it be because this programme is quite old now (2002 or thereabouts), that subtitles aren't possible?

Stick with it, worth the effort it’s a compelling series

petrocellihouse · 09/02/2021 07:00

@bloodyhairy I have previously raised the issue with BT directly about subtitles as I am very hard of hearing and struggle to hear almost all programmes. They say the BT box, which is a repacked Humax box, doesn't support the function for all programmes. Blinking annoying! I think you are right though, that those programmes are quite old now so may not have had subtitles. If you look at the programme via Amazon, it will tell you if it ever did have subtitles - you can see an S in a small box, alongside language options If it's not there, then they are not available. Getting deafer sucks!

Not very helpful on the subtitles front, but the books that Wire in the Blood is based on are really worth reading. It’s the Carol Jordan and Tony Hill series by Val McDermid (Wire in the Blood is the title of the first one).

bloodyhairy · 09/02/2021 08:08

Thanks all!

I misread it as the wire
Not wire in the blood
I no probs with Geordies I work with them so it’s ok

Flavabobble · 14/02/2021 06:36

(Wire in the Blood is the title of the first one)
'Mermaids singing' is the first, (I got a free copy with a magazine once - best free gift ever). Wire in the blood is the second in the series. The TV version is a really good adaptation and I've only ever pictured Robson green and Hermione Norris as the characters.
