DD (year 7) is enjoying watching TV episodes with us in the evening. Any recommendations for age appropriate but also good for adults TV or films?
We have enjoyed (strange mix)
His Dark Materials
Merlin
Lord of the Rings
Outnumbered
Jeeves and Wooster
Enola Holmes

She has watched lots of Studio Ghibli, with younger brother where appropriate. She loves fantasy but won’t entertain sci fi.
Thanks

FourEyesGood · 17/01/2021 13:17

Good Omens

BigTallyWacker · 17/01/2021 13:23

Sherlock
Call The Midwife (excellent for bringing up women’s issues and talking about them together)
Ghosts

I’ve enjoyed all of these with my yr7 dd.

BigTallyWacker · 17/01/2021 13:23

We also loved the BBC Pride and Prejudice.

DiscoJanet · 17/01/2021 13:28

With 11yo dd and 13yo ds we've watched
Friday Night Dinner
Atypical
Miranda
Brooklyn 99
The Good Place
Glow Up (ds didn't watch that)

They're both watching Kobra Kai atm.

We watched the Truman Show together recently and they loved it.

My DD loves Anne with an E which is another Netflix one
Modern Family is also good

Cuddling57 · 17/01/2021 14:07

Stranger things
Lock and key
Cobra Kai

parrotonmyshoulder · 17/01/2021 20:06

Thanks, we’ll look into some of these. She’s on the ‘sensitive’ side and I think Stranger Things would be too scary, although I love it.
We’ve seen Anne with an E and also A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Locke and Key sounds good.

We have discovered When Calls the Heart on Netflix. My 9yo DS loves it! And I'm enjoying it too. Nothing inappropriate. Very Anne of Green Gables (the old tv series not the new one).
Great characters and interesting storylines that are resolved with happy endings which my sensitive 9yo needs.
It's a bit of fluff - but a great family show.

redfairylights · 20/01/2021 16:53

Brooklyn 99 and Death in Paradise have kept us going for a few months.

mrwalkensir · 21/01/2021 23:20

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 22/01/2021 07:42

TV
His Dark materials
Bake off
Merlin
Brooklyn 99
West Wing
Lemony Snicket
Jamie's latest tv cooking series
Dr Who (all of the modern series)
Agents of Shield
Stranger things

Films
Enola Holmes
All the MCU movies
Dark Waters
The pursuit of Happyness
Men in Black series
Ghostbusters series
Jumanji series
Ocean's 11 (though didn't like sequels or ocean's 8)
Knives out

The bourne identity series

He hasn't seen it yet, but Hidden Figures is on the list.

Just Add Magic on Prime. Perfect tween viewing for girls who like a bit of fantasy. 3 friends find a magic cookbook. There are great tween issues and it's quite funny too.

bjjgirl · 13/02/2021 17:07

We love eat well for less and she loved stronger any weight loss challenge to shows - she's very sporty and healthy and is genuinely fascinated at how ppl can become out of shape and loves their journeys back to health
