I just love it. I love how despite almost hiding behind a pillow out of concern for her, there are no bad people out to get her.
She is genuinely loved by the small group of friends and admirers. It's so sad watching her addiction, but I just love her.
Started it yesterday and not long left in the last episode. What shall I watch next Smile

I agree - loved it as well. I was so worried that the strangely quiet old caretaker was going to be abusive but he turned out to be a sweetheart! Apparently the book is rather a disappointment if you are thinking of reading it.

Wherrsmaclickypen · 13/01/2021 20:29

Thought it was marvellous, interesting and entertaining but not superficial. An insight into another time and another world. The love and attention to detail that went into the sets and costumes set it apart. Perfect TV for me.

BenoneBeauty · 13/01/2021 23:09

I completely agree - loved it for all the reasons you guys have mentioned.

binkyblinky · 13/01/2021 23:22

I've given my 67 year old mum my Netflix login to watch it, she's on episode 4 already!

Have you tried the Marvellous Mrs Maisel on prime?

Oh, goodness OP, are you sure this was a good idea - I'm 67 and never stray beyond BBC soaps and Pointless. Is she in good health?? This might be a bit beyond her, all those chess moves.

binkyblinky · 14/01/2021 09:43

@PinkyParrot what's your point?

Grin Don't forget Countdown!

I love that Queen's Gambit doesn't feature a young woman who has been raped/murdered/mutilated.

Oneearringlost · 14/01/2021 10:17

Couldn't agree more. At each turn, when you thought someone was going to wreak havoc on her, it didn't happen! That, amongst other things, gave it polish and finesse. Just goes to show how we have been brainwashed by ITV premier dramas.
It was tender and beautiful. The best thing I have seen for decades... so, what's next?
I'll Google Mrs Maisel

PinkyParrot · 14/01/2021 10:19

What does her age have to do with it?

LaMarschallin · 14/01/2021 10:22

Haven't seen it yet, but have had it thoroughly recommended to me by my daughter.
Even DH - a keen chess player who represents the county - has read an article in one of his chess related magazines* which has praised the realism of the chess shown.
Which pleased my daughter.

*I assume they're chess magazines; they certainly mention pawn and mating positions...

binkyblinky · 14/01/2021 11:41

@PinkyParrot my mum was born in 1953. The character is the same age more or less as my mum. She is 9 at the start of the series.

Yes, the fashions and cities look very accurate for their time.

custardcreambourbon · 24/01/2021 09:07

Just watched this over the last week. Absolutely loved all the scenery and the clothes, it was visually stunning. I was initially really drawn in by the storyline after the first few episodes it sort of ran out of steam a bit and started to drag.

Fizzgigg · 24/01/2021 11:24

Loved it too and loved how it ended - the team of friends around her

OnwardsEverStridingOnwards · 24/01/2021 23:39

Love TQG. I just found it so well written and compelling. ❤️

JustDanceAddict · 25/01/2021 19:22

Loved it too.

Hels20 · 25/01/2021 19:36

Loved it too - it really is “different”. So refreshing that it was about a strong, but slightly damaged woman - who wasn’t taken advantage of, who had a great support network around her, where for once it wasn’t about how will the girl win the guy. The scene where she is part way through her match with the Russian (I think - I watched it a couple of months ago) and she phones the guy who is played by Thomas Brodie Sangster - and all the men are at his place and giving her tips and helps! It warmed the cockles of my heart!!!

RaininSummer · 25/01/2021 19:41

I have watched it 3 times now. Absolutely brilliant.

TCTeddy · 25/01/2021 19:52

I loved it, wasn't expecting to like it at all. My 75 yo Mum loved it too.

CoolShoeshine · 25/01/2021 22:07

I loved it too, the lead actress is enchanting looking. Loved the sixties style and the beautiful buildings. Would have liked to see more of the caretaker and some other characters though.

Dont agree about the book, the tv show is very close to the book, i found a really good read
TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 26/01/2021 07:31

I can't get over how beautiful Anna Taylor-Joy is in it. The sixties look really suits her. Her eyes are extraordinary.

I can't get over Love Actually boy being 30 with a wispy moustache either 😂

bruffin · 26/01/2021 08:30

@TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross
Also Harry Potter's Dudley Dursley really skinny.
Tbh ATJ looks amazing in any costume.Emma had the most beautiful costumes as well
