I think it was called Polanski, late 80s think bbc but not sure.

The main character was an alcoholic and was some kind of Private investigator, it was set in London and south england. I remember it being entertaining ( but I was very young). It was in a similar vein to Dempsey & Makepeace.

I think it only lasted one series, and I can’t find anything on the web about it, searches mainly come up with details of a dodgy film director.

Are you sure it wasn't Bergerac? The series was based on Jersey and the main character was a recovering alcoholic.

Hmm - was it Resnick perhaps?

Pulaski. It was about an actor who played a detective on TV and ended up trying to solve crimes in (his) real life. Starred David Andrews and Caroline Langrishe.

@Talisin you got it! Well done. Thank you. I was starting to wonder if I’d imagined the whole thing. Did you watch it? I

I did, yes. For some reason as soon as I saw your thread title I thought ‘it’s going to be Pulaski’ - hadn’t thought about it in years! It was one of those Friday night shows in the Lovejoy/Call Me Mister vein, I always tended to watch back in the 80s.

OMFG! I think this is the series that I have been trying to remember for about 20 years. Did they have a friend/agent/mentor who had a big beard? I'm sooooooo excited. I loved this show when I was about 10. I remember watching it during the time I was getting ready to be a flowergirl at my aunts wedding and wanting to be back from the rehearsal in time to see it.

Possibly? I think the agent was Rolf Saxon and he did sometimes have a beard, not sure about in this. There is an episode up on youtube (with a young Tony Head and Neil Morrisey)

Christ, just noticed a young Mark Greenstreet in it as well. I had such a crush on him after Brat Farrar that I even made it through two series of Trainer...

I don't think there could have been too many late 80s British comedy/crime series about a husband/wife acting together while attempting to solve mysteries? I remembered them as divorced rather than in a bad marriage. I also remembered one of them as American. And the photos of the guy with the beard feel like what I remembered.

SilverLiningSearching · 10/01/2021 13:02

I read the IMB link and apparently Ray Winston was in it too.
How would I get to watch it though?

This thread has reminded me of a 1970s series about an English husband and wife crime-solving team.

It was called The Wilde Alliance. Anyone remember it?
