Anyone watch this?
I'm not sure what he was saying was wrong with the veterinary profession?
I mean I know about the problems with flat face breeds but what is he saying is wrong with the vetinerary profession?

Yes, I found this one a bit odd. The man was a bit flat

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 10/02/2021 07:28

They said it was winter so I wondered if it was filmed just before covid.

It was strange. Oh yes I live money free for 3 years then with the profit I made from living money free and the profit I continue to get from it i bought this land.

I absolutely get wanting to lose some of the trappings of life, I really respect those who do but i don't like pretending you can live without money because to do so you must be exchanging services or relying on gifts. Clothes for example, seeds to start the garden and maybe food if the garden fails. His fishing gear. If you don't have it before you start then you need to buy it or be privileged enough to have someone give it to you. Or if you barter your skills for something then lucky you that you matched skill and requirement, but that's kind of like money isn't it. Money is the modern version of a bartering system. It is entirely too concentrated amongst the privileged few but it is necessary.

DP watches these. I’ve seen a few including this one. The common theme is ‘man becomes mentally unwell and runs off to the woods (or similar) to be by themselves’ Often leaving a woman somewhere alone to raise the children.

I did see one where a woman went off to raise her child alone. That was at least a pleasant change.

dottypotter · 11/02/2021 14:24

How did he shower and heat his water? Where does the camera man sleep? There is lots you dont see.

justanotherneighinparadise · 12/02/2021 08:03

I walked out on this program in the end as he was such a walking cliche. Earned lots of money from his book about living money free so bought a house and land. Then to make himself feel less hypocritical he let out rooms for free to those who needed it. One very coincidentally happened to be a beautiful young woman who also very coincidentally has ended up in an intimate relationship with him 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Next!

I wonder what Mark’s plans are for sickness or retirement. I think he said in another interview that he’s closed his bank account.

mrswhiplington · 12/02/2021 11:50

I assume he gets paid from Channel 4 for making this programme. How does he pay for his Guinness in the pub if he doesn't have any money? Give them a bunch of kale?

Cattenberg · 12/02/2021 23:41

I never thought of that! And if Mark didn’t want to make money from The Moneyless Man, couldn’t he have published it as a free ebook?

Mark’s lifestyle did give me pause for thought, but ultimately, I wouldn’t choose to live that way for any length of time.

murbblurb · 14/02/2021 21:33

Not exactly a cabin in the Yukon ,was it? Hermit with a pub down the road! Still, whatever works.

purpleme12 · 17/02/2021 22:14

Did anyone watch this week's?
Is it worth watching?
Cos I see it's a revisit and often I'm left thinking the revisits aren't worth watching on programmes

Didn't bother watching this one. Have seen this family loads of times on telly. They are not exactly living in the wild. She's written books and all sorts. I think they are running out of people to visit.Grin

DobbyTheHouseElk · 24/02/2021 19:55

Did anyone see last nights episode. With Emma/Emerald living in the woods. Was she a cult leader? What was the church about. Something really weird about it, but also I can imagine wanting to join in.

No mention of how they get food or general things.

No mention of washing or loos.

Her top was so clean, how is she washing it? I was fascinated by it.

purpleme12 · 24/02/2021 20:14

Not yet but I'm going to watch it on catch up

Really liked the family in this week's

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 07/03/2021 00:57

And I think it's really impressive what they did with the horse box, never mind the barn!

This week's house looks quite expensive and yet they both still work part time

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 30/03/2021 21:50

Can't believe how many deer they have to kill 😞

Not feeling these past two episodes, rich people with tons of land who go off grid, big deal.

Yep, and her wanking on about not being normal.

Just watched the Ullapool one; felt a bit disappointed...it did feel very privileged and a bit like watching how the other half live. I usually like it because the people really commit to change their lives radically. I know the young couple this week weren't rolling in cash but to inherit that sort of property was amazing. They did work hard and I respect that but it was just so out of reach for ordinary people ...

I agree. I mean, c'mon, she inherited tens of thousands of prime acreage. And the Ullapool people, FFS, able to afford that massive house, which would NOT be cheap and run it with that level of work. Yeah, right.
