Anyone else think the dynamic between Shea and her DH is off? So much passive aggression and swiping.
The houses are all huge though - although her style is very formulaic.
Fair play to her though building up such an empire at 33.

Is no one watching it?

I'll give it a shot this week and report back...

LemonBreeland · 06/01/2021 09:13

DH is convinced her DH is gay, and it's a marriage of convenience.

She does love white a lot. Some houses look great, and other times I think things don't look very cohesive.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/01/2021 10:24

I've watched both series, I agree it's all a bit weird and I wonder where all the money comes from from clients as well. But mainly I just want to sort out the girls hair. Obviously they are loved and well cared for, but they always look like their hair needs a wash and a brush.

LemonBreeland · 06/01/2021 10:36

I think the series doesn't sit well as Syd is only there as someone for Shea to talk to. He doesn't have anything to do with design. He runs the financial side of the business.

I admit to being a bit fascinated with how much money they seem to have, so googled. It seems Syd had a digital start up that he sold, so I imagine he made a fair bit of money there.

I also wondered why a designer would move from California to Utah, but I think they may be Mormons.

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 06/01/2021 10:57

I imagine that they moved as you can have a mahossive house in Utah versus even on their money a fairly meh house in California

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 06/01/2021 10:58

I love it but agree with all of the above posts

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/01/2021 11:00

A Mormon wiki page apparently lists them as members.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/01/2021 11:04

I thought she looked pregnant in 2nd series but who knows?

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/01/2021 11:07

Also think sometimes the bigger houses they do are easier, I'd like her to try to sort furniture for my poky living room Grin think the team obviously do a lot nowadays and she just oversees things, which is what would happen when a company grows. It's a fickle business I would think as when times are tough you'd not spend on that, plus you'd need to keep up with fashions while maintaining your signature look. Fair play to them really for doing so well.

nancypineapple · 06/01/2021 11:17

Just started binge watching this last night! Hard to get past all the teeth-however really love their use of panelling. Partner watched half an episode and just asked where all the shit went-as in all belongings, school photos, kids toys etc. Also pointed out that all the massive wall mounted TVs are at the wrong angle for watching them. Why move from California to Utah? Interesting you found out they are mormons-now I can't get the Book of Mormon songs out of my head!

LemonBreeland · 06/01/2021 11:28

The ex basketball players house in season 2 was crazy. Their Great Room was bigger than my whole house.

JMAngel1 · 06/01/2021 14:09

Ha ha. Yes Syd may well be a beard.

I was cringing watching when the littlest girl cut her fringe on her own - they didn’t seem at all perturbed that she could have gouged her eye out - they were more concerned with her hair!
I didn’t know they were Mormons - just thought moving to Utah give them more bang for their buck.
Yes I too wonder where all the clients get their money - so many of them bugger off on expensive holidays whilst a 50K project is being paid for at the same time - bonkers money.

This is all speculation of course but I guess that even now in middle america and some religions, gay is still such a big thing. I honestly don't know anyone in any age range here that really gives a damn about what people choose to do with their private parts as long as it's all consensual. Anyway we digress :o

LemonBreeland · 06/01/2021 15:12

Obviously you get more bang for your buck as you say in Utah. But you would have expected that there would be more clients in somewhere like LA.

Being gay is a massive thing in many parts of the US. They are a very conservative country, and religions like Mormons are very conservative.

DanLevysLips · 06/01/2021 15:19

Only watched two so far but how lovely was that basketball player? What a kind man.

Hotdrop1 · 06/01/2021 15:26

I couldn't stick with it. I found the endless references to 'we took an amazing risk and built up this incredible company' (with tears in her eyes) really irritating, We got it the first (10) time(s) it was said. Isn't that the same with all successful companies. I also found their relationship a bit off but that was because he seemed like a spare part given the show is about design a d he doesn't do that. They're in jokes where they'd be crying with laughter at something they said that meant nothing to the viewer - also very off putting. Finally, I thought the decor was very M&S catalogue. Give me the interiors by the man in Queer Eye any day - that's real jaw dropping flair.

Hotdrop1 · 06/01/2021 15:27

Aargh - terrible spelling in my post!!

grey12 · 06/01/2021 15:37

Tbh I watched a few episodes and wasn't too keen on it. Nice stuff but have seen so much better. Joanna Gaines is a fantastic decorator compared to this one and I prefer watching her show

lalafafa · 06/01/2021 16:13

Tyler, one of the contractors is a proper snack

JMAngel1 · 06/01/2021 16:22

For yes I agree - Fixed Upper is much better and the dynamic between Chip and Jo is much more natural - you can see there is mutual respect there which I don't get with Shea and Syd.

Yes Tyler is the bonus of the show Grin
