I watched last night , when she was in Georgia, wandering round being generally disrespectful of Georgians. Is that it? Is that what passes for funny these days?
And who the heck is he anyway?
Somehow, I can't imagine her doing it in a non-white country.
I loved Travel Man, which sometimes uncomfortably borders on this, but SP really loves taking the piss out of her hosts, doesn't she?

I missed it.
Was it that bad.
I don't like her comedy or shows but I like travel and culture programmes so was going to watch it at some point.

have a go - you might enjoy it. I thought it was awful (obviously)

After reading a review in which it said she was pretty patronising and rude thinking she was being funny decided to not bother watching.Plus DH and I have watching Michael Palin's programmes on BBC 4 and he's so warm, respectful and genuinely interested in other countries and cultures.Would a travel programme by a white,Oxbridge educated man get commissioned now we couldn't help wondering ?

thisislovelyme · 04/01/2021 18:58

I watched for about seven minutes before I had to turn off - she was patronising and rude. No thanks. Just seems a bit desperate.

@Snugglepiggy
I've been rewatching Michael Palin's progs too. Absolute balm for the soul!

Samcro · 05/01/2021 14:25

I liked it

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 08/01/2021 20:16

I loved it!

I think she is incredibly respectful to the people and their jobs and the history of the country.

She then does a very good job of identifying the differences to the UK and highlighting them in a way which it's funny and (imo) not disrespectful to the people and their culture.

Loved it.

JaneJeffer · 08/01/2021 22:33

I loved it too and the one in Cuba.

Magicbabywaves · 09/01/2021 13:55

I didn’t love it. I think she applies her own specific principles to very different places. Which isn’t what I watch travel programmes for.
Much prefer re watching Michael Palin.

Maireas · 10/01/2021 12:08

I find Travel Man patronising and snide.
I enjoyed the Sara Pascoe programmes. When she was in Cuba and visiting the woman who made sweets, but turned plastic junk into flowers was really lovely.
I also liked it when the hairdresser was critical of her hair and she said "this would never happen to Michael Palin!"

It's not a travel program though.

It's not what I thought it would be, as I thought she would be learning more 'every day' skills that would help her if she was the last woman on Earth' (or at least in a situation where she had to rely on herself more than delivery shopping!) but my expectations are a bit too high!!

I find the concept a bit 'flighty', but I don't think she's disrespectful of the people, she takes the piss a bit, but really only of herself & her (understandable) inability to do lots of things.

It's not intended as humanitarian aid - nor a travel Program.

Michael Palin is ok, but it's NOT in anyway the same type of program.

That's like comparing Great British Baking & Jamie Oliver 30 minute meals.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 10/01/2021 12:24

I think she's not fake 'respectful'. Her comments are 'real' & I like that.

Maireas · 10/01/2021 12:35

I liked it in Georgia when she tried to learn the singing and dancing and found it really hard! It made me laugh.

Magicbabywaves · 10/01/2021 14:06

Well it is a travel programme. She travels to different countries and talks to locals. I agree it’s a very different format to Michael Palin and even as I wrote that I thought someone would point out how different the two shows were.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 11/01/2021 19:46

It's nice to have an alternative to the talking guidebook style travel show.

Maireas · 11/01/2021 19:56

I thought Finland was interesting because I've never been. All the jobs she tried were at risk because of climate change (apart from being Santa's elf Wink!)

JaneJeffer · 11/01/2021 20:22

Those horses in the forest were gorgeous.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 11/01/2021 20:24

The husky pups 😍

Maireas · 11/01/2021 20:32

They were soooo cute! The reindeer were lovely, but obviously made quite a mess.....

megletthesecond · 11/01/2021 22:42

The ending tied it up well I thought. All the way through I was thinking that covid was getting nearer.

We loved the ice floating.
