Did anyone watch this yesterday? I was looking forward to it, enjoyed the parts with the school kids and the man who was designing the car. I really changed my opinion on DW though. I know a lot of what he says and does is an act, but he was like a spoilt, petulant child with the car designer. My 16 year old ds said the same, that he's rude and it was totally unnecessary. He was great with the children, all show, but it was as if you saw his real side with the man.
I've watched other programmes of his, the swimming up the Thames, and he didn't come across like this. Was quite disappointed in him.

I haven't watched this yet, but he's always Mr Nasty. Always guarded and on the attack. He really is such an unpleasant man. I wish I could congratulate him on his success, but he's so vile. He's got such a dark side to his character. I wonder what he's really like, it would be interesting to know. He never seems to be able to strike the right tone with his comments or behaviour. Is he meant to be striving for funny but wildly missing the mark?? I don't know.

Totally agree. Absolutely no idea about engineering and apparently oblivious to the amount of work the team put into it. Sneery and negative, gone right off him.

I loved the programme and that Chitty did fly but also thought this - he was so unnecessarily rude and disparaging to the engineer and it's not like he could have done it himself!

I've always found him completely obnoxious so this doesn't surprise me at all.

I've just watched it and enjoyed it - but I assumed that the interactions with the engineer were kind of scripted, intended to be funny with him being a bit demanding and the engineer not quite being able to live up to it to add some drama. I hope that isn't what he is really like.

I think they could have had the drone team in earlier, too, rather than just make it look like the engineer failed and had to be rescued at the last minute by someone who knew what he was doing. I'd have liked to hear more about how they were working things out, what went wrong, what the drone team was going to do differently, etc - bit more of the science behind it. Not in huge detail, obviously, as I know it was meant for children, but still some more science.

The school children were great, looked a very polished performance for year 3! Must have been a big school if they have actual music and dance teachers as part of it - was it in London? A state school? anyone know?
