Call the midwife (previous seasons)

POSSIBLE SPOILERS (just incase anyone has just started watching )

I recently rewatched the whole box set of call the midwife. Thank you maternity leave.

Barbara....why did they bring her back to kill her off?

She was married, happy and ran off with Tom. Why not just do what they did with Patsy and we just don’t see her again as she’s all loved up and happy somewhere else?
She was away, came back for a couple of episodes, then contracted meningitis...I cried so much at her final scenes!!

And on that note...will we see Patsy again?!

Also...where did Cynthia go? Why is no-one checking up on her? Surely Trixie would be asking after her a lot?

And Chummy! Where is she??

Argh!!!

Cynthia stayed behind at the Mother House to look after a little boy there. But hasn’t been mentioned since!

Patsy is in Hong Kong (I think) with her partner but is also moonlighting in The Crown.

Chummy went to work in the mother & baby home and is never mentioned.

What I found really odd was when there was a ciné film shown for Sister Evangeline’s birthday (or nun-related anniversary) and Jenny Lee wasn’t in it at all.

Wasn’t it Sister Bernadette who stayed at the mother house?
Cynthia had a breakdown...she did go to the mother house but they’ve been there since and she wasn’t mentioned.
They got a letter from a Patsy saying she was now in Scotland...but I just don’t feel like there was any proper closure on her departure (same with chummy).

I agree about Jenny Lee. It’s strange she wasn’t mentioned!

I'm just watching last year's Christmas ep-what year is it supposed to be-anyone know?

Am I the only one who has never really like Trixie?

Well I know that the dialogue isn't her fault, but the young girl Isla was dancing about near the fire in her nighty & got burnt.

And Trixie sniffily says that it's flannelette.

Well wtf should her nighty have been made of for dancing about near an open fire??!!

It was sister Winifred that stayed at the Mother house. I couldn't stand Jessica Wray/ Jenny Lee so glad she disappeared fairly quickly.

Ah yes, Sister Winifred stayed at the Mother House. So many nuns, they start blurring into one!

The midwives all seem to stay for a while then move on..except Trixie. She was there in the 1950s when the programme started and still here mid ‘60s - it’s unbelievable her character would have stayed living with nuns (and like a nun!) all that time in that part of London. More likely she’d be living the high life in Chelsea or Kensington.

Cynthia (or Sr Mary Cynthia) is at the hospital where Patrick recovered from his breakdown after the war. She was last seen being driven there by him a couple of series ago.
