Inspired by a recent thread I’m going to see if Mumsnet can help me identify this person - actor and or tv personality. It’s been bugging me for months after I met someone who closely resembled him on holiday (may have been him, who knows!)

English actor (I’m thinking soap actor but also can see him presenting lite-history / cultural programmes ala Michael Portillo)
In his 60s / 70s - maybe even a bit older now
Posh and softy spoken
Quite debonair
Slim, quite refined features (angular more than soft)
Perhaps slightly spiked hair

I can see him in some posh attire, perhaps a blazer and red trousers
I feel he may have played the part of a posh and not very nice scheming person in a soap opera, someone living in the country, perhaps owning land
A very distinctive voice, perhaps slightly gravelly yet smooth

It’s not Nigel Havers, or the bloke that played Richard in Corrie

The name Martin comes to mind but my searches have borne no fruit.

Help!!

Hope its not Ian Richardson as he is / was very well known ffs .
David Warner,likewise ...

Beadlet · 23/12/2020 22:23

Good guesses but none of these (and frustratingly elements of many!). David Warner is probably the right vintage. I seem to recall the person (or their character) was a bit smarmy.

none of these but a Chris Chittel (Emmerdale) type character I'm thinking of. But probably in his 70s / 80s now.
