I would say Kerching - looking back was awful.

Saved by the bell, Beverley Hills 90210, the wonder years all those 90s teen programmes.

sunshineandshowers21 · 30/12/2020 14:42

i loved the tribe! i re-watched them all during the first lockdown. all 5 seasons (52 episodes each!) available on amazon prime if anyone fancies a nostalgic re-watch.

Yes I feel the same about sister sister - my youngest has discovered it. Roger's behaviour is horrible and the twins are obsessed with boys and boyfriends. That's all every episode is about, it's depressing and a shit example to young girls. Quite a few homophobic jokes in it too.

jessstan1 · 30/12/2020 14:46

@PoloNeckKnickers

A lot of 70s comedy. I used to watch On the Buses as a child and when I saw it recently I couldn't believe how shite it was. We used to watch Man about the House as well and that was wall to wall double entendres which went over the head of an innocent 7 year old.
It was very funny in its time but I too now think it is a bit naff - it hasn't worn well. It's the same with 'Bless this House', even 'George and Mildred'. I wasn't a child during those times, I was 20+ but I know kids watched them.

Was it called Man Oh Man... Where they pushed topless men in the water? I loved it! 😳

EsmeShelby · 30/12/2020 15:31

Mind Your Language, the national stereotyoes! and It Ain't Half Hot Mum, everything really.

ZenNudist · 30/12/2020 15:33

Blackadder is very homophobic. Not nice and very dated.

Confusedandshaken · 30/12/2020 16:11

The Doubledeckers. I loved it. A few years ago my DH bought me a copy on DVD and I was thrilled. I only watched the first 2 episodes because it was utter rubbish.

That same year I bought DH the box set of Press Gang on DVD. That was sensational. It hasn't aged at all and was as witty and clever as I remember it.

GrouchyKiwi · 30/12/2020 16:16

Voltron. The new Netflix show is exactly as good as I remember the terrible original being.

Can you give some examples?

Mochudubh · 30/12/2020 19:49

I absolutely loved Robin of Sherwood, Michael Praed when he had hair, swoon.

"Treated" myself to the box set in HMV sale a few years ago and the clunky dialogue and hammy acting made it unwatchable. Straight to charity - I imagine it being bought and re-donated by an endless cycle of middle-aged women who thought the same.

TheOneLeggedJockey · 30/12/2020 19:52

Also interested to know how Blackadder is homophobic.

I vaguely remember this, was it Davina McCall who presented it in the days she was on MTV? I think it was.

@superoz

The other day I thought about watching Quantum Leap again, but I'm convinced I might ruin my fond memories of it. Wouldn't mind watching an episode of Fresh Prince or Heartbreak High to see how that has aged.

A lot of kids TV was terrible in the 80's with some really odd characters - Timmy Mallet, Jimmy Cricket. They really make me cringe now. A lot of teen dramas were pretty bad too and didn't portray girls in the best light or used a lot of stereotypes. I see it even today.and it's disappointing. The story from the film Labyrinth is really odd too - grown man in some very revealing tights lures a teenage girl to his castle by kidnapping her brother and spikes her apple with something that knocks her out on the way. WTF! I used to love this film but how the hell did it get made with a story like that?

It did occur to me the other day that peep show is going to age quite badly too.

superoz · 30/12/2020 22:49

@doadeer aha! I do remember this now. Can’t believe it was Chris Tarrant!
I found the one I was thinking of, it was God’s Gift, which was terrible: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/God%27s_Gift_(TV_series)

Have watched a few Man About the House recently and was surprised at how charming they actually were compared o a lot of 70s stuff. Mildred of course is quietly heartbreaking as so many of that generation who had to put up with rubbish husbands as so few men were available post WW1 &2

Friends. Used to love it. Now watching repeats on Netflix and I'm like, WHAT WAS I THINKING?

SometimesIWonderWhy · 31/12/2020 00:37

Friends. Doesn't stand up well at all.

Lizzy1980 · 31/12/2020 00:54

Happy Days. Thought it was hilarious. Watched the opening theme song on YouTube the other day and felt genuinely embarrassed for myself

desperatelyseeking1 · 31/12/2020 15:01

Probably Cosby Show - nothing actually wrong with the show but hard to watch without thinking about Bill Crosby's crimes.

The one where Kenneth Williams narrates - willo the wisp. Did watch it as kid but now it feels a bit creepy, don't know why!

There are old shows that I still love though, my DD has recently got into Fresh Prince of Bel Air and we watch it together. Still makes me laugh!
