Did anyone watch? I'm behind, so only halfway through just now!

I never watched the early series, although DH (then boyfriend) was addicted from Series 1! So I'm "meeting" Edd, Jo and John for the first time Wink

I watched it.

I am the other way around, l watched the wawlry series but got fed up with Paul Hollywood being so awful to the contestants and the challenges getting more and more obscure.

And l still think Ruby should have won!

I didn't watch the first series but have watched every one since. Mary had far more lines in the first couple of series than subsequent series. She must have had some very good work done. Or if not she got a good make-up artist. I think some of the past winners have been controversial. They haven't been the best throughout the competition but pulled it out of the bag in the final. One example being Jo in series 2. Holly was by far the best baker but didn't have a great final. Also got me thinking about Jo's husband. How she didn't realise he was up to no good is beyond me. They lived in a 500k house through professional gambling? I know big money can be made but come on! Anyway I was thrilled when John Waite won series 3.

I watched it but found it very boring, very few of the winners are memorable.

I didn't start watching until series 4 so found it interesting to see how the show had changed since the early days. They definitely seem to have upped the standard in later years. Series 1 final showstopper appeared to be afternoon tea!

Hold on, what?!? a) do you mean quiet unassuming Jo? b) did they reveal this about her husband.on the programme?

Mary glammed up massively as the series progressed. Not sure if she had work done: I assumed it was just more time spent in hair and make up.
The earlier series seemed much more authentic really - not just Mary being more natural but the fact that the showstoppers were cakes rather than increasingly bizarre constructions

Francis Quinn did a bake along over zoom with my WI branch last night. She made marzipan bumblebees. She was absolutely lovely!

Toddlerteaplease · 17/12/2020 14:56

She said that Paul & Mary were hardly in the tent. They did an occasional walk around. But saw loads of Mel & Sue.

Crinkle77 · 19/12/2020 11:12

@IntermittentParps they didn't reveal it on the programme at the time but it was in the papers after her win www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/inside-secret-life-bake-winner-19975049

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 19/12/2020 11:17

I’d forgotten they used to move the tent to different locations!

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 19/12/2020 11:24

I didn’t realise I’d watched it from the beginning but I must’ve as I remembered them all. I was hoping they’d include Mary Ann accidentally piping Sacha on to her Sacher torte, because it’s her daughter’s name, very amusing!

IntermittentParps · 19/12/2020 13:16

Thanks Crinkle. I had no idea!
