So for those of us in our late thirties and (ahem) early forties who are re-watching buffy.

Is it spike or angel?

I love spike but I'm not sure buffy ever did. I need to be less invested into this but I'm watching it on my new exercise trampoline. And it's my happy place.

’Riley (dons hard hat and hangs head)’

Well I suppose there had to be one Grin

MissFitton · 04/12/2020 23:04

@CaveMum I used to make sure I got home from work on time on a Thursday to watch Buffy 😁

MissFitton · 04/12/2020 23:12

Not wishing to derail but 'witness arias..' 😁

Helocariad · 26/12/2020 20:04

Spike

Helocariad · 26/12/2020 20:05

Watched Hush again for Halloween. Still proper scary, even after all those years 😳!

NeonSparkle · 26/12/2020 20:18

I’m 28 but I was obsessed with buffy when I was 12/13. I had posters, duvet covers and all of the episodes on vhs.
I was always strongly team spike - he was my first celebrity crush- actually my first crush ever Grin
I met James masters when he did a comic-con type event and a limited ticket q&a and he was so so bloody lovely to me, although I then realised when seeing him in the flesh that he was old enough to be my dad and the crush slightly subsided - but only slightly lol! Although watching re-runs again now I still think spike is gorgeous Grin There is just something about him, I think it’s the whole bad boy thing.
Also on a side note I met Allison Hannigan and Anthony Stewart-Head and they were also lovely too!

EnjoyingTheSilence · 26/12/2020 20:23

SPIKE. Always Spike

Brighterthansunflowers · 30/12/2020 00:32

Spike 100%, I find Angel really boring and he’s too busy doing the “I’m so broody” nonsense to actually focus on Buffy

Trailing1 · 31/12/2020 23:29

Angel, utterly gorgeous.

RandyGiles06 · 31/12/2020 23:42

Neither, they were both non-starters, on a recent rewatch it made me so mad that Angel dragged it out for so long, I find it quite creepy that a 200-odd year old guy had the hots for a 16 year old... and why did it take him 3 years to realise they had no future! Spike was hot but I always found it amusing in S5 when he seems actually dumbfounded that Buffy didn’t just fall into his arms when he declared he fancied her! Like that it hadn’t occurred to him that she might not like him back 🤔😂

Would take either over Riley though 🤯

Anyway, Buffy and Angel couldn’t possibly have had a future because that way he never would have fallen for Cordy 🥰

josbd · 04/01/2021 00:07

Well. I am in my 60s, and I still think it was superb!

Alyson Hannigan recently wrote that if they were remaking Buffy, then she should end up with Willow. And a bunch of us old buggers grouchily woke up and said "Faith would have something to say about that"!

I met Eliza Dushku (Faith) at a Comic-con in Birmingham some years ago. In fact I went outside for a fag, and she practically mugged me as she didn't have a light. She was fun, and I liked her very much.

Anyhow, to return to the original post.... Spike. Angel was just about looks, and bugger all else, as far as I could see!

Queenoftheashes · 04/01/2021 00:38

Spike. Yes the rape thing was annoying but he was soulless. Angel murdered Jenny! And Angel could only love Buffy when he had a soul. Spike even as a soulless killer was capable of love. He also knew and understood Buffy. Buffy and Angel never really had much of a mental connection. They just fancied each other as far as I can tell.

Emmab321 · 04/01/2021 02:21

Angel for me although I do love both characters.

I don’t think Buffy ever loved spike in the same way she did Angel. I found Buffy/Angel’s relationship created some of the most heart breaking scenes for me . In ‘the prom’ when angel has broken up with her and she is crying to willow on her bed and in the episode in the 1st series of Angel where he becomes human for the day giving buffy all she ever wanted and then takes it away again . (The end of that episode -OMG).

In series 7she does indicate to Angel that a future with him is something she still thinks about and and this point she was pretty involved with Spike.
So I am still routing for Angel :)

I started watching it last month again for the gazillionth time but I can’t get past ‘the body’ episode this time round. I find it so hard to watch .

Truthfully I would have fallen into his arms! He’s utterly gorgeous. Still the sexiest bad boy to have even been on tv.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 08/01/2021 13:08

where can we watch Buffy again? I want to introduce DD to it.

YourHandInMyHand · 08/01/2021 13:13

Ohhh I'm really feeling the need to rewatxh Buffy now.

NemesiaPinkLagoon · 08/01/2021 13:22

Spike is a far more compelling character and is hotter IMO. I loved him so much when I was a teenager! Buffy and Angel / Sarah MG and David B have a lot of chemistry and their romance is heartbreaking but Angel on his own is a bit dull.

There is a really good podcast called Buffering the Vampire Slayer which I recommend to any fans. They are very funny and go deep into the storylines and character arcs. They also have good interviews with various stars including James Marsters who discusses the rape episode, along the lines of the quote above from a previous poster.

Absinth13 · 09/01/2021 23:38

Spike. 1st watch I was about 11, a rewatch in my late 20s made me see Giles in a very different light though Grin. Spike's back story is much more interesting as well and he had a good (bad) relationship with Dru for many years

@ iwillneverbesatisfied: Amazon Prime, and it WAS on All4
