Really really hoping the new series gets picked up by U.K. tv. It looks so good

I am VERY concerned about this. I love the original and am so worried they're going to fuck it up, as much as I trust Whoopi Goldberg.

TommyKnocker · 01/12/2020 17:59

Is it out in the US yet? I did wonder if it would get delayed...I'm looking forward to it although I didn't like the mini-series, the book is one of my favourites. I ready it at the start of lockdown which probably wasn't advisable!

I really like James Marsden so I have high hopes.

JacobReesMogadishu · 01/12/2020 18:03

I love the book and also wasn’t keen on the mini series so have my fingers crossed for this one.

whatayear20 · 01/12/2020 22:29

It's due out later this month. No news of a U.K. date though. It looks so hood

Can't wait- must be better than the original hopefully. Wiki lists Rat Woman as one of the characters but I can't remember her from the book or TV series Confused

species5618 · 02/12/2020 13:25

Release date of Dec 16th in America and it's being advertised on Amazon Prime US so maybe over here on Prime?

whatayear20 · 02/12/2020 14:15

Oh I really hope so.

The Expanse starts next week as well - christmas coming early.

species5618 · 16/12/2020 15:48

Confirmed release date is tomorrow (17th)

Mutunus · 18/12/2020 01:11

Caught the first episode today. It's quite good (faint praise I know) but I kept finding myself comparing the new cast with the originals. So far the originals are winning!

Metheven · 18/12/2020 05:22

So looking forward to this, it is my favourite book. Does anyone know if Starzplay will show it weekly or will it all land at once? Also, what is Starzplay? Grin

Mutunus · 18/12/2020 11:46

Smile StarzPlay is another paid-for streaming platform like Netflix and available through Amazon Prime in the UK. They are doing an introductory offer of 0.99p a month for three months but The Stand isn't due until January
I watched it on CBS All Access but they're airing one episode a week.

BG2015 · 18/12/2020 21:18

Watched the first episode today. I enjoyed it even though it seemed different to the book.

I read it many years ago so my memory isn't what it was.

I just remember it being about a journey, a group of people drawn together to find Mother Abagail and the fight between good and bad.

They seemed to have got themselves pretty sorted into a town, with a community of survivors.

Will stick with it and see how it pans out.

Mutunus · 19/12/2020 11:30

If I remember correctly it seems fairly faithful to the book so far. The gas station, Fran and Harold, and Stu Redman in the testing facility, but the TV series is showing things a little out of order, perhaps not quite in the same linear way as the book depicted events. The show started with the survivors in Boulder which only happened much later in the book.
I really must get out more Blush

middleager · 19/12/2020 12:46

The jury's still out for me on the first episode.

It moves around in time a fair bit and I imagine for those who aren't familiar with the book or the original miniseries, this could be confusing. For me, this was just more frustrating, but a regular bugbear of mine with many modern shows that try to be too clever with time lines.

But I will wait and see, because it is my favourite SK book, possibly my favourite book in general.

TommyKnocker · 23/12/2020 11:24

I'm going to get StarzPlay to watch it but will wait until it's all out. I can imagine them starting it later in the book with maybe some flashbacks as it does take a long time for them all to meet up in the book which I imagine doesn't translate as well for a series as you need the interaction between the characters.

Wonder if they are doing the whole book over one series or more?

It's one of my favourite books which always makes me a bit nervous! I'd love them to do a good quality series of the Dark Tower, the film just didn't count for me.

Aubergina · 23/12/2020 11:28

I can't imagine it will be all that true to the book as the audiobook is 48 hours long!

middleager · 26/12/2020 09:21

I've watched episode 2 now and have got to say I'm really disappointed.

The time jumps and general lack of fear/suspense isn't keeping me gripped like the book or original.

TommyKnocker · 26/12/2020 19:11

Oh no @middleager, don't say that, I had high hopes! I'm not overly surprised as SK adaptations tend to be more miss than hit but it's a shame as it seemed to have a good budget and cast.

Mutunus · 04/01/2021 09:54

The Stand is now available on Starz Play in the UK through Amazon Prime. Introductory joining offer of .99pence a month for the first 3 months which should cover you for The Stand Smile.

JessicaHyde · 07/01/2021 19:01

Watching first ep now middleager doesn't seem very gripping or cohesive.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 07/01/2021 19:04

Oh the opening of the original! Played out to Don't Fear The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult.
Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.

whatayear20 · 13/01/2021 06:59

Two episodes in and I'm enjoying it

OP posts:
Mutunus · 20/01/2021 12:38

Anyone still watching?
I'm finding it increasingly annoying. There's been at least one big scenes that just didn't happen in the book and put a different and unnecessary slant on things.
Nick Andros may as well not be in it although Harold is fantastically disturbing.
