I can't follow tv that well and I like to look on MN to see if there is a thread that I can look at to help.

Yes me! Well I'm up to series 2 now, what do you think of it so far? It is different to how I thought it would be!

I finally started it, halfway through Series 1. Princess Margaret has just been refused the Queen's consent to marry Peter Townsend.

It shows (I think) that part of the reason is that Elizabeth was jealous, as Prince Philip had started having affairs (she suspects). I wonder how true that is, (there have been many rumours over the years), but would it have been part of her motivation for refusing Margaret? Seems a bit mean! Of course, Princess M could have married him anyway, but was unwilling to give up her Royal status, that was more important to her. I wonder if she would have been happy if she had married PT? She evidently led quite an unhappy life, I've heard that she liked her status, freedom and glamour (and wealth of course) but was generally unpleasant to lower ranking people (ie most people) from all accounts.

There's a lot of fuss, now that series 4 is out, about 'remember it's fiction', but as far as I can see most of the storylines that come up are based on stories I'd heard years ago, I imagine a lot of them ARE true. Although of course a lot of the private conversations can only be based on speculation. Surprised the programme makers get away with it though in this country!

I'm onto series 3 now, think the actor playing Prince Phillip is amazing. And Olivia Coleman is great. I read that it's the most expensive Netflix series made to date, makes sense really. I wonder if it's a big hit in the US? Who would have thought Netflix biggest show would be about the royals!

I enjoy s 1 and 2 but three bored me too many episodes I just wasn’t interested in also the subtitles on one episode meant that was hard work as well.

Yes, some episodes seem as they are a bit of a filler of sorts.

Agree that season 3 was a low point. I really enjoyed season 4 though.
