Did anyone watch Part 1 of this this evening? Part 2 is on tomorrow night on ITV.

It’s so shocking how she was treated by the royal family and most of all Charles.

Charles was a real shut wasn't he?
And there's something petulant and entitled about William that makes me think the apple hasn't fell far from the tree.

I always thought Diana was as bad to be honest. She didn't marry for love either, she had her affairs and I always thought she knew what she was doing, playing the press like a violin. I thought the press interview in Kensington Palace was c.f.erry, however now we know Martin Bashir gave her fake documents when she was at her most vulnerable to encourage her to spill the beans, which was abhorrent.

Housewife2010 · 10/11/2020 06:17

The information that Charles told her the night before her wedding that he didn't love her was given by one person, her astrologer. Noone else backed that up so I'd take that claim with a pinch of salt.

I haven't watched it yet but I can't understand why it took her brother so long to come out with the information about Bashir lying to Diana. It doesn't make his claims any less true but it is hard to understand why he held back.

It was very pro-Di, and I don’t think revealed anything new (apart from the documents).

butterpuffed · 10/11/2020 08:04

I don't think it revealed much either but I think it's setting the scene for what we'll hear on the second part tonight.

ssd · 10/11/2020 08:37

What was the problem with the documents, I don't understand this bit, why is her brother involved now?

Martin Bashir paid a forger to mock up bank statements which showed a member of their close circle betrayed them and took bungs, thus leveraging an interview with Diana which was facilitated by Charles Spencer. Bashir had form for dodgy stuff like that (it's on a Channel 4 documentary at the mo) and so Spencer is claiming that the interview was gained through deception and not through fear of being exposed and controlling the narrative.

Alexandernevermind · 10/11/2020 09:25

On the news yesterday they said Martin Bashir's team forged documents to falsely claim she was being spied on too and that there was a conspiracy against her.

Standrewsschool · 12/11/2020 20:19

Watched the second part today. I thought both episodes were interesting in how the whole interview was put together.

Was the point of the second episode to show that Di was tricked into doing the interview, due to seeing the false documents? If she hadn’t seen them, maybe she wouldn’t have done them.

Diana was ‘just as bad’? She was twenty years old when she got married. To someone in their thirties who had been ‘playing the field’ for years and who was in love with someone else. She was chosen as breeding stock, nothing more.

Yes and treated as if she did not exist to boot.
