what was with the pink haired one in the kilt

UnquietDad · 15/10/2007 22:42

So....

They were a bit harsh on the punky/alternative/re-enactment types. Surely their products will be bought by punky/alternative/re-enactment type people who quite like the fact that they look a bit wacky.

FlameBat · 15/10/2007 23:11

No - they wanted to get their products into gyms, anywhere they could sell snacks etc. If they want to be taken seriously then they need to look like business people - they didn't.

It would be fine for selling at a festival, but to get them into the rest of the marketplace like they said they wanted, they need to look the part.

It's like turning up to an interview with ripped jeans and greasy hair - even if the job is as a builder, tis not a good impression and looks like you don't care. Most builders etc change into smart casual for quotes - it is about impressions.

FlameBat · 15/10/2007 23:12

(Possibly a bit passionate there )

UnquietDad · 16/10/2007 11:04

I suppose you're right. There's a difference between the professional "costume" and what they wear when asking for money. I think they'd realised the showbiz element of the Den!

DulwichDolly · 17/10/2007 21:18

OH MY GOSH... that woman finally got interested in investing some cash.... in the previous series i think she never invested a penny.... what a shocker!!

zisforzebra · 17/10/2007 22:06

What was up with Duncan Bannatyne though? He seemed furious with everyone and declared himself out first to just about every person that came in.

Peter Jones is still my favourite though and i thought he was very funny when the datewithmates blokes invited him to try it.

UnquietDad · 18/10/2007 09:34

PJ was funny when he said that about dates, and, annoyingly it's TRUE! B'stard!

UnquietDad · 06/11/2007 10:53

What about last night's then?.... Goblin woman? Trolley-chair man?

themoon66 · 06/11/2007 11:06

Right... last night's..... that boot tidy thing to hold carrier bags in your car seemed wonderful to me. Just the sort of thing you'd see in a Betterware catalogue or lakeland.

Goblin woman was clearly a few sandwiches short of a picnic and she was very embarrassing to watch.

chopchopbusybusy · 06/11/2007 11:07

I thought the Goblin woman was completely barking... two thousand books and she didn't even know how many of them were still gathering dust in bookshops.

I liked the recycled washing machine drum table - although we didn't have a close up look at it, so might lose it's appeal in RL. The recycle bag thingies were good although I'd have to empty them about a million times a day, but maybe good for people on their own.

UnquietDad · 06/11/2007 11:21

Goblin woman WAS away with the fairies, but Bannatyne was an arrogant shit about the book, calling it a "disaster".

It was probably either self-published or done by a small press whose director was a friend of hers, but it's not uncommon for a novel to sell 2000 copies, unless you are a "name" like Bannatyne. And more often than not it does come down to small publishers not having the clout for distribution. There's no correlation between that and quality. Some very good books sells only a few hundred; some awful ones sell in their millions.

I wouldn't have wanted Max's bin in my kitchen actually - I didn't think it looked all that elegant. His other stuff - interesting that he mentioned it was going to be exhibited. He would probably have made more money doing it as an art installation to begin with, and forgetting any practical use!

UnquietDad · 06/11/2007 11:23

and chopchop, you just don't get up-to-date info on sales, even from proper publishers - they keep you in the dark as long as they possibly can.

FlameFromBonfire · 06/11/2007 11:33

I felt sorry for the new guy who didn't get to invest because he was new

I did like the knicker woman the other week though who clearly had no idea how Theo could be so certain that La Senza wouldn't be stocking them

brimfull · 06/11/2007 11:37

The blonde woman dragon, can't remember her name.Apparently she is only 47!
I think she looks much older.

I thought the plastic bag thing was crap, what's wrong with a cheap bin with a bag in it?

Goblin woman was completely nuts imo,I reckon she was seriously deluded.

I also thought the thing for the boot of your car was a good idea,I wouldn't mind one of those.

Peter Jones gets up my nose though,he's got such a huge ego.

chopchopbusybusy · 06/11/2007 11:42

Well, Duncan Bannatyne is always an arrogant shit. Thought Peter Jones was pretty arrogant last night as well with his imposition of a three minute time limit for a decision on his offer.

I'm sure there are many brilliant unpublished books out there as well as published books with small sales. You have to admit though that Goblin woman just didn't have much evidence to share about why her film would be so good.

UnquietDad · 06/11/2007 12:04

She didn't make a great case for the film, no. It just seemed like such a losing pitch. The actor must have been Kevin McNally - hmm, good, but worth a million?...

I'm not convinced there are that many brilliant unpublished books out there. I think there may be a good few good ones and OK ones. But not good enough to be published, or they would be.

I missed PJ's 30-minute limit. I think that was when my shopping arrived!

UnquietDad · 06/11/2007 12:04

sorry, 3-minute limit.

hifi · 06/11/2007 12:06

do you think duncan has had hair plugs, he looks weird.
