On Apple tv. Anyone watched it? I was dissappointed after all the 5 star reviews. I love Rashida Jones too. It just felt abit flat for me.

Oh, I loved it. I think Bill Murray and Rashida Jones had lovely chemistry.

I loved it tool!)

I read a couple of really scathing reviews that put me off watching.

I loved it too, easy watch and agree that Bill Murray and Rashida Jones were good together.

And it was very mumsnetty, when he tells her to check her husband’s phone when she suspects he’s up to something.

I liked it, but I thought it was a bit of a copy of Like Father on Netflix, with Kristen Bell and Kelsey Grammar.

Both I think suffered a little from wishful thinking about the situation they describe.

It would be nice for absent fathers looking to rekindle a relationship with daughters later in life if all it took was a bit of quality time and some hugging/crying or a comical misunderstanding to repair things

But it’s not quite as simple as that, so both films suffered from not quite getting the emotions right.

On the one hand, Like Father is as messier and showed more of the pain, on the other On the Rock showed how past experiences can colour current perception, so both had some insights to offer but both also fell short because they were Disney Dad who’s skimmed a self-help book briefly and thinks a mini-break will undo abandonment issues.
