To ER or not to ER

I've run out of TV and after loving Greys, Handsmaid Tale and This is US and have chosen ER to be my next binge watch.

Will it feel dated?
No spoilers please ;)

Any other recommendations based on my recently loved?

Must be slightly cheesy emotional watch that I can binge when DH is working away or the toddler has a nap!

ER is fab. The first six or so series were repeated on CBS a couple of years ago and there was a thread with lots of lively discussion on it. (It also had spoilers, so don't look it up.) The first eight series are the best ones in my opinion.

The only elements which I felt were dated were the HIV / AIDS ones and the one concerning a staff member who came out as gay and felt they had to hide it.

The West Wing is also great, and a definite antidote to Trump.

Bunnybigears · 18/10/2020 22:15

Early ER whilst dated is way better than later ER in my opinion.

Muddypuddlesinthewoods · 18/10/2020 22:18

I've found it too dated.
You may like new Amsterdam, Chicago med and little fires everywhere.

1940s · 19/10/2020 12:23

Oooh thanks for the recommendations. I've tried a couple of episodes of New Amsterdam and felt it was a bit too cheesy, but may give it another spin if ER doesn't lure me in!

ER is great. Do it!

bigchris · 19/10/2020 21:45

I rewatched it in 2003 when on maternity leave , and again in 2006 on maternity leave ! Loved it ! If we get locked down the West wing is on my list !

mogloveseggs · 19/10/2020 21:46

Do it! It is amazing

EnjoyingTheSilence · 19/10/2020 21:48

I’m rewatching ER now on All4, bloody brilliant. Still love it

ChristmasCantComeSoonEnough · 19/10/2020 21:50

I’m rewatching ER and it is good but far stressier then greys if that is an issue. I’ve started fast forwarding when the alarms are going off and they are resuscitating people.

PurpleDaisies · 19/10/2020 21:52

West wing is the best tv show ever made. I’m on at least my tenth watch.

ER is up there as the best of the rest.

Iwasonceabrownie · 19/10/2020 21:55

I'm watching it at the moment, I'd forgotten just how great it was.

andannabegins · 19/10/2020 22:19

I have started watching it on all4 too. I love it just as much as the first time.

Ontheboardwalk · 19/10/2020 22:20

Do it!

bluechameleon · 19/10/2020 22:23

I rewatched on CBS and still loved it. I was so sad when it stopped after a few seasons. I'm currently working my way through Buffy but ER is next on my list.

Ireallymustgotobed · 19/10/2020 22:33

Binge watching ER as I type. Nearly at the end of season 2. Still good, although as a teen I loved Carter and now mostly find him irritating. Suspect I’ll like him again as he matures.

Was plagued with Peppa Pig singing at me to wash my hands in the frequent ad breaks too, just what I wanted after putting DD to bed, but she seems to have disappeared for now.

This!!!

I'm about 6 episodes in so far and it's much faster paced in terms of medical drama. Maybe they were designed to be viewed as a weekly episode so needed to be high impact, whereas programmes are binged now so they are slower paced and more focussed on the characters.

Either way I'm really enjoying it so far and doesn't feel too dated from a Vishal perspective!

I’m up to where Romano has joined. God he was a cock and a sleeze, but somehow I warmed to him originally. Wonder if I will again

TweeBree · 20/10/2020 12:16

It took around 6 eps to really get into it. You don't notice how dated it is after that.

superoz · 20/10/2020 14:52

Glad you started it OP! You won’t regret it.
I just finished the whole lot recently on All4, Seasons 13 and 14 were a huge challenge though as did decline and became very soapy.

A lot of issues brought up are still relevant, though some of the attitudes towards some wouldn’t be accepted now.

Love it as a show though, it was brilliant.

1940s · 20/10/2020 17:38

I will definitely do West Wing afterwards!!

Tv is my ultimate self care and wind down and I am so glad I've got stuck into ER

Is west wing on any of the streaming apps?

I gave up at the start of rewatching series 14. I needed a break. This thread has made me want to finish my quest

I enjoyed rewatching and liking characters this time round I never liked before. Abby and Luka can still fuck off though

Always loved Romano

StationView · 20/10/2020 22:03

OP quite a few of the actors who later became famous on The West Wing appear in ER episodes. It must have been their equivalent of The Bill. Bradley Whitford is in an award-winning episode from series 2 that I can't bear to watch.

Ontheboardwalk you are being VV unreasonable. Luka Kovac was a sex god lust emoticon Blush

Edinburghfalls · 20/10/2020 22:06

Apparently all on west wing is coming to all 4 later this month.

What about ally Mcbeal?
Brothers and sisters?
This life?
