Adult Material on C4 - did anyone watch?

Just asking as a friend who watched it was really upset.

Not sure what she expect from a C4 programme, but it was listed as being a comedy.

I’ve watched all of it, and I would say it’s a dark comedy, as well as the first episode not being representative of the whole series.

I think (and also from reading twitter threads) that whether its dark comedy or any other, rape of a young girl and her mother telling her it was probably because she hadn't set boundaries, let alone a young woman suffering physical harm because she agreed to a porn act on her first day she was advised not to do, is really that funny.

Hard for me to really comment, but I think she thought it would more be a send up of the attitudes around porn being something where women could be empowered.

I did question describing it as that before I wrote it.

I have to say what it’s been advertised as, and what the first episode seems like, is very different to what it is as a series.

I’d say it’s a nuanced look at relationships and consent through very good characterisation actually.

The scene you describe is not standalone, and fits with a number of other scenes around consent, and is designed to give you a better understanding of it (if you needed it, as some people still do....).

I can see how people may have watched the first one and been shocked/upset, it really does develop over the series.

If there is a dark comedy element it’s around the characterisation - assumptions you’d make about the particular things. It is not making light of rape or the other serious issues it covers.

I did comment on the other post you just linked about that particular scene. It made me feel really uncomfortable and wanted to shout listen to what your daughter is saying!
