Along the lines of call the midwife or Downton. Period drama, back to a simple time. Just want a lovely distraction and something to binge watch. X

If you have Netflix then Medici is rather a good binge watch as there are now 3 series - some gore but beautiful settings.

Not a period drama but I've enjoyed Ghosts from the cast of horrible histories...

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 06/10/2020 18:33

Mapp and Lucia 😍

Must be the original 1980s version though!

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 06/10/2020 18:50

All Creatures Great and Small? Can't binge though!

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries?

BlusteryShowers · 06/10/2020 18:56

I came on to say Ghosts!

Grace and Frankie

Gilmore Girls

The West Wing (yes, it's political but in a very cosy, goodies always win kind of way)

Virgin River (underrated, very cosy and nice)

HotSauceCommittee · 06/10/2020 19:26

I used to like watching Doc Martin and then discussing it with my Nan, alas, no longer with us.
The Pride and Prejudice series (the one with Jennifer Earle in)?

Davros · 06/10/2020 22:31

Where can I find Mapp and Lucia? My favourite books and the 80s series is brilliant

MsStillwell · 07/10/2020 05:22

The Durrells? Another vote for Pride & Prejudice.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 07/10/2020 06:20

Land Girls
Lark Rise to Candleford

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 07/10/2020 06:25

Have you watched the Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries? On Netflix. It's a crime drama but set in 1920s Melbourne and they are just lovely (with murder thrown in...) The acting chemistry between Miss Fisher and the detective, Jack Robinson, is SO good.

scatteredglitter · 07/10/2020 06:25

Netflix

virgin river
And magnolias or something magnolia are easy watching

YessicaHaircut · 07/10/2020 06:34

Not a period drama but Detectorists is one of the most wholesome things I’ve watched. Available on iplayer I think.

keziahthecat · 07/10/2020 06:35

Have you seen Anne with an E? I watched that during lockdown and it was a good distraction - very sweet and wholesome.

SophocIestheFox · 07/10/2020 06:40

The 2010 remake of upstairs downstairs with Keeley Hawes might fit the bill?

Also I second the rec. for Detectorists, which will definitely soothe your soul.

margaritasbythesea · 07/10/2020 06:42

The Durrells is lovely.

MsStillwell · 07/10/2020 08:17

Ooh, The Detectorists is sublime. Just playing the theme tune soothes me.

squashyhat · 07/10/2020 18:43

Not a period drama but Heartland on Netflix. Horses, bit of family drama and beautiful scenery (Canadian Rockies). 13 series and counting!

Mydogatemypurse · 07/10/2020 18:46

Thanks so much everyone. I'm going to definitely check some of these out. Xxx

What Yessica said. Detectorists is the most wholesome lovely thing ever. Not period drama but does have some history.

TheGinGenie · 07/10/2020 20:29

Another vote for Ghosts!
