I'm sorry know it's been done hundreds but I f***ing hate claire verity

I was raging last night at the way she treated those babies and the parents are just stupid to allow this .
The way she fed those babies then kept them awake was just cruel , I just cant undrrstand why parents would allow this surely when they found out they were pregnant they knew a baby(babies) would cause disruption and a change of lifestyle

She bloodfy winds me up every time the mum of twins said "but claire it's cruel"
she answered "no it's not "

Wait until next week when the twins parents will have a party and brag about their contented little twins who don't cry ever and who sleep through the night. My blood will be absolutly boiling.

I said this yesterday, if anyone else (usually people with no kids) asks me is your baby sleeping through the night yet I will punch them.

Sleeping through the night is not a measurement of your parental skills, neither is it a reflextion of your baby's 'good compliant' behaviour. Waking up at night to eat is the normal natural way babies grow and feed. Only babies forced to by one method or another will sleep through the night early on, except for a few very lucky parents and babies (I know a mum whose little boy slept through the night on his first night home from hospital and has been doing so ever since, it wasn't forced on him at all! but that's rare...).

My children (i have 5 ) all were good sleepers , they all only ever woke up once through the night for a feed and usually were sleeping through by 3 months.
But there were other areas we weren't lucky in like colic and weaning ,every child is diffrent and if your going to traet them as an inconvienience like CV does then you shouldn't have them.

Yes even dd (13) threw a cushion at the TV when she cut back on the feed and then kept them awake. She was quite upset about it.

What really got me was when she was having the discussion on the sofa and came up with the old chestnut, "Babies are really manipulative you know.."

AAaargghh! Yes, of course, those little 5 week olds are lying in their cots thinking, "now, how shall I best wind up mummy and daddy. I know, I'll wake up at inconvenient times, and I'll cry a lot, that'll show them who's boss."

Makes my blood boil, yet I WILL insist on watching it!

I haven't watched it, because I thought I might put my fist through the TV, but I know enough about it from reading on here. I can't help thinking that for new parents, its hard enough thinking you're a failure, without CV, making you feel even more useless. I just think that this programme is going to be responsible for a rise in PND imho.

I don't think I want to watch it next week. I don't want to see the non-CV parents being made to feel like they have 'failed' because their babies don't sleep through yet

That is true maureen ,she makes you question your abilities .
If CV had tapped her fingers at my mum to stop her going near her new grandchildren I think she would have thrown her through the window .
Also shocked she dosen't promote breastfeeding either.

I watched for the first time yesterday, and decided that she has the polar opposite viewpoint to us on absolutely 100% everything to do with bringing up chidlren.

My HV was like that. She never had kids of her own and she was telling me how to bring up my dd! I'm a bit of a stroppy cow when it comes to it and I knew how I wanted it done, so when she questioned how I was weaning my dd, I told her that it worked for me, so that's how it was going to be done! Sadly, there's an awful lot of mums that aren't so strong and obviously nervous and it really bothers me, that she's doing a whole load of damage.

The sad thing is the parents completely believe her when she tells them their babies are manipulating them. Did you see that woman saying her daughter was manipulative?
FFS she's 4 weeks old!

Oh, how I agree. Now the outburst: my mother used to say this kind of CVerityish thing - 'oh, he's artful, isn't he?' - what RUBBISH! And WHY are 'sleeping through the night' and 'getting him DOWN' such big goals? Why not 'well, we all live together and we have good times and difficult times but we ge through them lovingly?' I'm sorry but I think Truby King was designed for the lazy 50s HUSBAND who didn't want the sex-and-martini supply affected by the baby. And how does that woman presume to know that her methods aren't damaging?

its just going to lead to more programmes of this nature..using babies and vunerable niave parents to make telly..
who would agree to do this anyway?....

i dont understand why you guys watch it and get upset..dont fuel their fire ..or there will be a whole bunch more of them to get upset over...

I see what you mean, HairyIrene. I've only watched this ONE episode and I don't intend to watch again. As for why parents do it, I expect they felt the need for guidance - I know I did, and remember I could hardly believe they would let me take the baby home form hospital when I was sooo pig-ignorant.

there was a thread the other day (sorry crap at links) about daisy godwin producer of this show proposing idea to pit cv against gf i think..

i just think people should vote 'with their eyes' if this upsets them, cause the outcome of watching it, is that surely more will get made..you know what those tv types are like when they get a formula! (no pun..)
dont anyone mention the Truman Show, lest they get ideas ..

i cant abide the idea of the harm this causes to babies, and to the parents too in different ways..

my midwife post natal was lovely, very relaxed in saying what could go wrong, what to check for that you will recognise different cries after a bit and to trust my instincts..great peice of advice really .. and i took it!
it never crossed my mind to read a book actually .. though had one for pregnancy..

our hv were okay too..was this no good to you?

but i cant accept one size fits all approach to much anyway.. and every baby is different,personality etc..

I watched it, and got all irate.

DP had to tell me to go to bed. I don;t know why I watch this sort of shit. The woman obv has no real idea of what it's like to be a parent, otherwise she wpouldn't leave babies to cry and limt physical contact.

She said "babies don;t need contact" Erm. no love. You don;t have a clue do you?

Hi, HairyIrene and all,

My HV was sweet and my midwife a darling, but I was when ds was born a complete wreck because I'd lost a baby (lateish miscarriage) the previous year. So it turned otu cc worked for me because I found it good to keep ds and dd close. Ds responded quite well, dd rapturously, thus showing how babies differ! But I'd be fine with Spock or commonsense, just not Truby King as it really nuked my own poor mum.
