Just thought I would add the link to this film on BBC iPlayer having posted about I, Tonya.

Another true life story which if made a thriller everyone would go that's a bit far fetched.

I didn't understand a lot of it as it was about gambling and odds, and poker.

Shows what can happen when you take on a temporary job because of financial problems and you get caught up in what is going on behind the business front.

Has similar theme to I, Tonya with the family dynamic of an over bearing parent and a child with a natural sporting ability.

I watched it, for the second time, this week and really enjoyed it.
Jessica Chastain can do no wrong in my eyes - fabulous actor.

Did you think she was unfairly punished? Or was that just me thinking women getting treated more harshly in the criminal system.

I thought it a very well mage film, and managed thank to an interruption miss what was said between her and her father near the end!

The judge at her trial was very lenient.

It seemed, to me, a bit rich to confiscate all of her money ($4million?) and stick her with a huge tax bill too!

Her father said to her that the communication/relationship problems between them was because she had witnessed him with one of his affair partners when she was 7(?) but she said, no, she hadn't seen anything.

Thanks "rose"

Yes the bit about the money was the bit that made me think they are putting her in her place for being a bit of an uppity woman!

And if that is what her father said, that's just a cop out. He was a bully. I thought they must have said something about it was just him wanting her to be the best.

@stumbledin - I checked back on iplayer; he also said that the only thing she had done wrong was to trip on a stick (during her final ski run,) that "to understand how much I love you is like trying to comprehend the size of the universe" and that he wanted to set a hit man on the people who had hurt her.

Ahhh!

Thanks for the follow up! I think that is almost worse than a misunderstanding.

I suppose the only thing you can say about him being so shitty to her was it certainly made her tough.

I cant imagine having the nerve she had to set up the gambling scheme.

And putting up with all those creepy men!

I read the little that exists on Wiki about her.
The actor Tobey Maguire (one time Spiderman) encouraged her boss to set up the poker nights. I wonder how much of 'the actor' in the movie was based on him?
