I'm 6 episodes in and oh my God. He honestly turned her insane! And was so convincing and sly!

I've seen a real life documentary on the case. I felt desperately sorry for her in that. He took everything from her. She is a very interesting character to watch in real life interviews.

shas19 · 22/08/2020 09:18

@lovelylovelove i felt so sorry for her, you could See how he literally turned her inside out. Especially when he said that their divorce started from their wedding day. I'm going to watch the documentary I think. He is the type of man that we read about on here!

I binge watched the whole thing yesterday and felt empathy with her that’s for sure and also Linda. The older daughters interviews put a slightly different spin on it but agree she was driven mad by him.

JacobReesMogadishu · 23/08/2020 21:18

I’m only on episode 3 and he does seem like a total narc.

I googled about her and amazed she’s still in prison. Has been turned down for parole twice and won’t be eligible again for years. Basically because she still maintains he drove her to it. They say that shows a lack of insight.

I guess the issue was that they were divorced. Yes, he was awful in the divorce and she lost custody of her kids, etc. But she lived apart from him, she could have made different choices, stopped letting him have so much control. I know someone who went through similar and lost her kids and while it broke her she never killed her ex.

I do feel very sorry for her but at the same time I know if a man had killed his ex wife like this I probably wouldn’t feel sorry for him. I’m so on the fence I’m getting splinters!

rosegoldwatcher · 24/08/2020 18:29

The thing is, she had no-one at all who was prepared or loved her enough to properly support her through the divorce. If the programme was accurate her parents wanted nothing to do with it and her friends mostly seemed to be afraid of divorce being catching and all talk of it an upset to their lunch dates.

I think that the best of us would go barmy in similar circumstances.

rosegoldwatcher · 24/08/2020 18:45

If anyone is interested - there is a movie on Youtube, made in 1992, with Meredith Baxter-Birney as Betty.
It portrays her as a nasty, money-hungry monster and him as a man driven into Linda's arms...

talkingkrustydoll · 25/08/2020 10:19

The people I feel most sorry for is the children. They have lost both their parents. They talk about it on this clip and it also has the recording of the son talking to her. It's all just heartbreaking.

I’ve just watched this and can’t believe she’s still in prison. It all feels so unfair.

Blimey @Strawberrypancakes - don't repeat that to the OP of another thread on this subject! You will get a blasting for being sexist! (We all are for having some sympathy for BB - just because she is a woman, apparently.)

I'm about 5 episodes in. Do you really think he should have put up with the endless angry rants and her going into the house and destroying property - his suits, the kids' Christmas presents, crashing the car at his door? None of that is the behaviour of a rational person.

I agree. I lost all sympathy with this behaviour, only hurt her kids.
Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 02/09/2020 17:28

I'm finding it quite slow going, the episodes drag until the last 5 minutes when something interesting happens.
Don't know if I can stick with it.

MorrisZapp · 02/09/2020 17:31

I have little sympathy with her really. Her husband was an absolute nob yet her main grievance was that he left her. She didn't want to divorce him at all, she wanted him to come back.

Anyone who's been cheated on and lied to will feel fury and hurt, but to effectively make your kids orphans over it, nope. That's on her.

UpToonGirl · 02/09/2020 17:36

I'm only a few episodes in but the guy playing the younger version of her husband is brilliant! I don't know if he naturally sounds like Christian Slater or if he just does a good imitation but he's great.

lebanon · 02/09/2020 17:41

I agree that it was never about the kids it was all me me . He as a narcissistic horror and she was vulnerable but she didn't really put the kids first .

talkingkrustydoll · 03/09/2020 06:24

I lost sympathy with her behaviour. Imagine your ex ringing over and over like that. Plus later on the way she turned so many conversations with her children to being about him. The only people I felt sorry for were the kids. Plus she should be in prison as she murdered two people. It doesn't matter how horrible someone is you can't just kill them.

eatsleepread · 03/09/2020 06:46

I originally had much empathy for her, but gave up patience with her as the series went on. She behaved like a complete fanny.
Towards the end it was only the children I felt sorry for. Betty was primarily interested in herself.
