Background

DescriptionSet in the fictional Chatsworth housing estate in Manchester, Paul Abbott's award-winning comedy-drama follows the living-on-the-edge Gallagher family. Charmless, unemployed alcoholic Frank is the patriarch, but since he hit the bottle and mum took off, it fell to eldest sister Fiona to raise her five siblings. And if the Gallaghers' lives weren't interesting enough, there are always the Maguires next door to throw a firecracker into the day-to-day proceedings. They're a feared bunch, and the father, Paddy, has little use for Frank.

That's not the first series is it?

In the first series I think it was kev and Veronica who lived next door. The Maguires were a later addition.

Pretty sure it's all on 4 on demand, the American version too if you want to watch at a faster pace.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/08/2020 17:47

Yes says s 1 e1

When Steve /James mcavoy meets Fiona and wants to get his feet under the Gallagher table

I did try the USA version but didn’t think much of it

Oh yes I did it love it, so dysfunctional and yet somehow the family bonds reigned. Brilliant writing, brilliant acting. James McAvoy, say no more. I got to season 7 then interest waned but I'd definitely rewatch it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/08/2020 21:53

Wondering if will show all the series

Forgotten how smutty it was considering its 15yrs old

The first two series were the best I thought but I still enjoyed it up until about series 6 or 7, after which I lost interest a bit.

The Maguires were not in it much until about series 2 or 3 and then they became almost as central as the Gallaghers as I recall.I assume that was because when some of the original cast members left the younger actors for the Gallahher family were not such strong actors so the story lines had to be spread around.

There were some brilliant episodes though.

Cheesypea · 24/08/2020 23:19

I've had a massive binge and am on season 3. Was amazing in the beginning there was nothing on the tele like it. The chemistry between Steve and fiona was electric, not suprised they were a couple in real life. Shame it went on so long as it lost it after the first few series.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/08/2020 17:12

Think they got divorced

I’ve recently just finished this again! I absolutely loved it, but I found myself getting quite sad when the main cast started to leave and there wasn’t as many familiar faces!

Scorpiowoman80 · 30/08/2020 05:15

I love Sheila and Steve was a bit of eye candy for me (and Jamie!) but my favourite is definitely mickey!

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/09/2020 14:58
