Any recommendations for someone who loved Call My Agent (Dix pour cent)?

Enjoying The Last Wave on BBC4 at the moment and before that The Returned.

Are there any gems on Amazon Prime or Netflix we may have missed?

Early Engrenages (Spiral) was excellent but the later series just became annoying and samey. We watch a lot of subtitled telly but flit around from the brilliant Spanish Casa de Papel (aka Money Heist) Mexican Snr Avila (though I'm not sure it's on at the moment). Belgian Professor T (All 4) and all the Scandi stuff.

pooptastic · 10/08/2020 19:23

Maison Close is excellent.

Trenisenne · 10/08/2020 19:30

Mythomaniac, la mante, la forêt are all good, especially la mante. I loved 10 per cent, still feeling the loss of having finished it.

I’m not particular keen on gritty detective series where the starting point is invariably a grisly murder (usually a woman). I tried Spiral but it didn’t grip me.

I’ll give Casa de Papel and Maison Close a try. Thanks!

I was gutted too when 10 per cent ended Trenisenne 😭

Following. We are loving Spiral but it is proper grisly.

Humphriescushion · 10/08/2020 20:17

I enjoyed Marseiile , critics didnt but very popular. Two series

Walter Presents - on All4 - lots of French crime dramas there:
The Passenger
No Second Chance
Killer By (and Vanished By) the Lake
Dead Beautiful (starring Thierry Goddard - Gilout from Spiral)

Some on Netflix -
The Break (2 series, very good!)
The Chalet
The Frozen Dead
Witnesses

Lunaballoon · 12/08/2020 13:57

Thanks for the suggestions but I’m not really looking for crime dramas - more comedy, supernatural and quirky.

Another one - I think it's on you tube - fais pas ci, fais pas ça. A bit like modern family. It might just be in French, not sure if that's a problem.

hollyandkit · 14/08/2020 19:14

I'm two episodes into Inhuman Resources on Netflix, enjoying it so far - it's a little bit different. Stars Eric Cantona and he's surprisingly good in it.

TheySeeHerRowling · 14/08/2020 19:20

Oh, there was a show I enjoyed a couple of years back and I just can't remember the name, argh

30-something Parisians, a slightly Bridget-Jonesish heroine with a dead end job at the Hotel de Ville, sharing a flat with a new parent couple (think the man was her brother) I was hoping for a second series but will probably miss it because I can't remember the damn name Grin

I thought I'd mention this because Call My Agent is my fave (along with Spiral) and it had a similarish funny quirky flavour

Sure it must have been on Netflix

The Hook Up Plan!

Thanks, Google

Marianne on Netflix is excellent. It’s a supernatural/horror with some dark comedic moments.

midsomermurderess · 14/08/2020 21:34

A Deadly Union on All 4 is fun. A family feud type thing set in the south of France, lovely locations, clothes etc. The Chalet on Netflix is good too, murder mystery in remote mountain village.

Lunaballoon · 16/08/2020 08:32

Made a very promising start with Inhuman Resources last night. I love Eric Cantona, even his Stella Artois adverts!

Lots of great suggestions here, non of which I would have come across otherwise. Thanks everyone!

Read somewhere that Call my Agent was filming another series, partly because so many French actors were hammering on the door begging for parts. I hope it's true, I have recommended it to so many people and they have all loved it.

Thanks for the other suggestions on this thread.

Ghostlyglow · 16/08/2020 11:03

Hotel beau sejour on Walter presents/All4. Belgian series that sounds like what you are looking for. I really liked it.

Roseytree · 16/08/2020 17:06

I love French tv but have not come across most of these shows before, where can I find them please - are they on Netflix?

BBCK · 16/08/2020 17:25

Really enjoyed Ennemi Public, which is actually Belgian. Can’t wait for the next series.

Ghostlyglow · 16/08/2020 18:41

All4/Walter Presents has a huge world drama section @Roseytree I don't know what I'd do without it.

Ooh, thanks for this thread OP. I am really missing going to France this year. I am going to watch French tv and eat cheese!

carbuncleonapigsposterior · 17/08/2020 08:15

Love all The Spirals.

"The Disappearance" BBC4 a couple of years ago was very good, one of the best French series I'd seen, I think it's still on BBC Iplayer.
