Is anyone watching this? It’s heartbreaking, that poor lad.

Poor lad. I am sitting in tears

Scum

Norugratsatall · 27/07/2020 21:59

Powerful stuff, sensitively done. What a pity that life doesn't mean life!!

Willowkins · 27/07/2020 22:02

Just watched this. I'm sobbing. Why does this happen?

startingtoday · 27/07/2020 22:03

Heartbreaking, his mum was interviewed on itv this morning , very moving.

PhoebeSnow · 27/07/2020 22:04

The actress who played Anthony’s mother was excellent, very moving.
I wasn’t going to watch, knew it would be upsetting, but I admire Jimmy McGovern’s work and he did a great job with such a tragedy, just as he did with Hillsborough.

So hard to watch. Unbelievably sad. I hope those 2 rot in prison. But they will probably be out soon. What goes on in the heads of people like that.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 27/07/2020 22:10

The way in which is was done made it so much worse...watching the years rewind and knowing what was to come as he got younger and younger.

Heartbreaking! All for nothing...

PhoebeSnow · 27/07/2020 22:15

Why does it happen? Because some people think that anyone who has a different colour of skin , or a different religion to them are “the other” and not worth decent respect or worth and there are always feral bullies who will , intimidate and even murder, just like the type who killed Stephen Lawrence , Anthony Walker and George Floyd. It’s desperately sad, and I don’t blame black people for getting angry and wanting change.

I was sobbing at the end despite knowing how it would all end.

It makes me sick that people are being murdered just because of the colour of their skin. Who has an ice pick in their car! They are absolute scum as are all those who do similar things.

Poor Anthony

Pinkyandthebrainz · 27/07/2020 22:33

Very moving to watch. I think his mother is an incredibly admirable woman to create a drama about her son celebrating all of the good in him.

CandyflossKid · 27/07/2020 22:54

Just so sad!

Nospringchickendipper · 27/07/2020 23:46

It was very sad and moving to watch and I am glad it focused on Anthony and what he could have done in his life and not on the people who killed him.

OceanPacific · 28/07/2020 19:00

Stunning drama. I was watching it by accident (it was just on in the room and I wasn't really intending to watch TV last night) but it was gripping. I didn't realise what the story was so I hadn't clicked about why we were going back in time.

Incredibly well done, sensitively written and so brave of his mother to campaign in this way. I wasn't aware of his case (DD was born that week so wasn't really keeping an eye on the news at the time).

What utter bastards those guys are. Utter, utter fucking bastards.

Cassimin · 28/07/2020 19:16

So sad. The acting, writing and idea were excellent. One of the best things I have seen on tv for a long time. I watched with my partner and 21 year old son. We were all sobbing.
I remember this happening, the aftermath of the murderers leaving the country and the appeal from their footballer family member for them to come back.
Leave them inside, loose the key.
Anthony’s mum is so brave.

JustDanceAddict · 29/07/2020 17:26

Really powerful. What a waste of a life.
The fuckers who did it need to rot in jail.

MissEliza · 30/07/2020 14:05

I knew it would be a tough watch. Well done to Jimmy McGovern for writing this to keep Anthony's memory alive. The scene where the lady phones Anthony's mum made me cry. My ds was jumped when he was 14 and two ladies stopped their car and chased the boys. I remember when the lady called me, saying is that Jo's mum and my stomach lurched. I then heard the police sirens in the background. I had no idea how badly he was hurt then and it was awful. Of course, he was singled out for his race so it wasn't in the same league at all. He only had a broken nose. I never got to thank the women personally as they were witnesses.

chrislilleyswig · 30/07/2020 17:07

That must have been really horrible for you and your son MissEliza

Mrs Walker is a very courageous woman and I wonder how she felt seeing all that potential brought to life on the screen

MissEliza · 30/07/2020 22:05

I lived abroad when Anthony died. I'd never heard of the case. I was in floods of tears for the last twenty minutes of the drama. Gee Walker seems like an amazing woman.

Deathraystare · 31/07/2020 09:21

I wish I had seen this but was probably watching something on other side. Don't have I player or catch up.
