Emily Bishop from Coronation Street

What actually happened to her character? Why has the actress not come back?

As far as I remember, the actress left a few years ago for a short break, has she retired and officially left coronation street? She’s had a very long break if it’s just a break she’s been taking!

IIRC Emily left to go visit with Spider in Peru and then went to help her deaf niece in Scotland (the niece then got with Norris who ended up in Still Waters retirement complex), so not sure where Emily is now as I stopped watching Corrie. The actress is in her late 80's so perhaps her health has failed a bit and the filming schedules are just too taxing, maybe she has had enough. She has no house to come back to either as Norris who she gave it to (in a silly storyline) sold it

I haven’t watched it for over a year but I think she FaceTimed another character earlier this year - Eileen Derbyshire obviously recorded it from home. She’ll be 90 next year, I can’t imagine that she’ll return but I’d like to be wrong.

It was officially a six-month break, but I wonder if Eileen Derbyshire ever planned to return. She’s notoriously publicity-shy, so may have wanted a quiet exit without a tribute show or ‘end of an era’ pieces in the press.
