OP posts:
Todaythiscouldbe · 03/07/2020 20:41

I've just finished rewatching it from the beginning. Enjoy!

bookgirl1982 · 03/07/2020 20:43

Enjoy! I watched it all again on maternity leave and loved it even more.

Rubytinsleslippers · 03/07/2020 20:45

Love it. Am jealous you are just starting! Amazing series.

FuckKnowsMate · 03/07/2020 20:46

Got them all on record as Itv3 are replying them atm so set series record just need to find time to watch them!! Can’t wait, I love it.

samlovesdilys · 03/07/2020 20:49

We watched it all the way through with the kids over lockdown, loved it but object to being called Mrs Pattmore...but do like a good Dowager comment upon occasion!!

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 03/07/2020 20:49

Oh it’s fabulous! I was also a bit late to the party - just didn’t really fancy it when it was first on - but it’s just utterly charming. Loved it. Enjoy!

OVienna · 03/07/2020 20:51

Bah! The threads were EPIC. Esp Season Two. Happy days, lol.

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 03/07/2020 22:42

Oh lucky you!! I was a bit late to the party when I started watching it on DVD. I watched some of it at a difficult time in my life, and it went so well with a glass of red that if I watched a third episode on a night, I wouldn't really remember much of it the next day Blush Which means I'm probably good to watch it again from the start WineWineStar

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 06/07/2020 12:40

I was also late to start watching it, such a nice easy watch and lots of good characters. The only annoying thing is there is always a massive build up of a storyline, and then at the moment we've all been waiting for its concluded really quickly or even worse, off camera, and ruins the main moment! But thats also part of its charm I suppose. The Guardian did a great episode by episode blog about it that was completely spot on and hilarious, you can probably still read them

RachelRosie · 06/07/2020 13:51

I started watching it last year and loved it. I went and watched the film on a rare child free day in January and it was just joy! Enjoy!

Chottie · 06/07/2020 19:05

I love it too - especially the Dowager Countess Violet v. Cora's mother. They are so well matched :)

SephrinaX · 06/07/2020 22:35

I think it's better on a second (or third) binge watch!

Chickoletta · 06/07/2020 22:48

It’s wonderful! Jealous of you watching for the first time. The recent film was just beautiful but you’ve got many episodes to watch before you get to that....

magicstar1 · 06/07/2020 22:53

It’s all on Amazon Prime at the moment. My mother missed it first time around, and I’ve been telling her for years that she’d love it, so I put Prime on her tablet a couple of weeks ago. She’s on season 6 now and keeps phoning me to say how wonderful it is lol.

Auntieaunt · 06/07/2020 23:08

I bloomin’ love downtown.

I probably rewatch it once a year or so.

I absolutely love Dame Maggie Smith as Granny - some real one liners, top insults and the matriarch of the family.

Thanks to downtown I got into wandering around stately homes as I like to imagine what families lived there.

ssd · 06/07/2020 23:10

I'm trying to start watching this but to get it from the beginning I need to pay for every episode, is there anyway to watch from the beginning for free?

ssd · 06/07/2020 23:14

How do I get amazon prime, is it costly?

SephrinaX · 07/07/2020 00:03

@ssd

How do I get amazon prime, is it costly?
£79 for the year or £7.99 a month.

But you do get free next day delivery on most stuff too.

Normally I think you get a 30 day free trial as well?

magicstar1 · 07/07/2020 09:53

@ssd sign up for the free 30 day trial. Just remember to cancel it in time.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 07/07/2020 10:13

Love downtown! I was also late to the party, watch them all (twice) . Went to see the film which was fantastic, booked to go to on a coach trip which was cancelled due to covid 🙄 going in April 2021 . So bloody excited !

hellswelshy · 07/07/2020 10:25

Ha me too! I've just in the last month or so started watching as they are replaying all episodes in ITV3. I have set a series link so they are recorded and ready for me & dh in the evening when dc go to bed. I love it!! On series 5 now I think? I'm actually glad I didn't watch it originally as it's been a tonic during lockdown. And I fantasize about going to a stately home for a Downton weekend Grin Love old lady Grantham, the does get, and her relationship with cousin Isobel!!

ssd · 07/07/2020 12:37

I wish I'd known this at the start of lockdown, I'm going back to work soon and won't have time to watch it within 30 days now 😢

NoMoreReluctantCustodians · 12/07/2020 22:10

I only watched it this year and have now watched it several times.Blush

Dame Maggie Smith is brilliant but I also love Carson's facial expressions. He is so so perfect for that role.

I didnt think the film was so good. But there are rumours about a second film and I'd watch it in a minute to get more Downton fix, whether it's any good or not.Grin

Twospaniels · 13/07/2020 19:03

I have finally managed to watch the film. When it came out at the cinema my husband didn’t want to go, even though he loved the series, and I had no one else to ask and didn’t want to go on my own.
So on Saturday after a really long walk in the morning, we had lunch, then bought the film on Amazon Prime and spent the afternoon on the sofa together watching it.
It was fab.

squanderedcore · 15/07/2020 20:13

Series (5?) has just finished on itv3 this evening. Really sad as it has been getting me through long days of dh having taken over the house working from home.
