Anyone else watching this on Disney+ today?

Anyone having a watch party?

I've been counting down the days for 6 weeks - the millions of problems in the world can look after themselves for 1 day, I'm all about A.Ham A.Burr and Daveed Diggs being fantastic.

We have a menu and everything.

Have you seen it already?

yes! very lucky seen twice when it first opened in London.... been following it's progress from Broadway soooo I was good and ready when they announced a possible London move...
It's just sooo flippin clever and LMM is a wonderful lovely genius!!!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 03/07/2020 14:39

Saw it on stage last year and I’m so excited to watch it tonight!!!

theluckiest · 03/07/2020 14:58

Home early on a Friday so I'm about to watch it NOW!!!! I'm in the room where it happens and couldn't be more excited

I'd planned a trip to watch it in London this summer but couldn't go obv.

I have snacks and a glass of fizz for the interval.

SQUEEEEEEEE!!!!!

GreyGardens88 · 03/07/2020 15:00

I've bought some booze and going to sign up to Disney + for one month especially for it

WendyHoused · 03/07/2020 16:32

I've seen it 4 times (so far). I'm so excited about seeing the original cast! Distracted myself with Frozen 2 to make it a Jonathon Groff double feature (Kristoff/King George)

@WendyHoused, DD is watching Frozen 2 for me. Grin

WendyHoused · 03/07/2020 18:16

Excellent work by your DD.
(Wasn’t a patch on the first one but Kristoff’s love song made me laugh)

How long is it on youtube for?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 03/07/2020 18:20

I liked it because I liked the songs but yeah, not as good as the first one. I love Disney though so I’m not complaining.

oohnicevase · 03/07/2020 18:21

Does it get better? I watched the first scene and it seemed very am dram 😬

BumpkinSpiceBatty · 03/07/2020 20:20

We are having Groff day in my house. Frozen 2 with the kids now Hamilton in peace!
Lucky enough to have seen it in London. I'm sure it will be amazing on the screen but I don't think the atmosphere will translate enough.
Can't wait though!

WendyHoused · 03/07/2020 23:17

Our house was delighted. Some of us (me) cried. Jonathon Groff and Daveed Diggs are SO worth their money

Yep! Tissues were blubbed into in this house too! 😂

ShowOfHands · 04/07/2020 00:09

Watched it with the 13yo and the 8yo tonight. They are word perfect on the lot but have never seen it. They loved it.

I enjoyed it very much indeed. It's exceedingly clever. LMM is such a talent.

gabsdot45 · 04/07/2020 09:25

I have been looking forward to seeing this for months. No one in the family wanted to join me so I warned them all that I would be hogging the TV for the evening and didn't want to be disturbed.

Well I was constantly disturbed. DH had to bring MIL to A&E and I had to bring him parking money and dinner because he'd forgotten his wallet. . Thankfully she's home now and fine. Son and friend were in and out and finally DD came downstairs right at the end in the middle of Eliza's song with some request.
Ugh!!!!
Anyway it was brilliant despite having to pause it 28374664574 times.
I'll be watching it again and again.

theluckiest · 04/07/2020 10:28

Ha @gabsdot4!!!

That was my experience too!! Strict instructions to not disturb me as I was so looking forward to watching it.

Cue 'Muuum, where's this thing I've lost?'

'Muuuum, Hamilton is SOOOOO boring' (so why are you watching it then? Go away & let me watch it in peace)

The cherry on the cake was when DS announced just after the interval that he had had a raging toothache all day & we had run out of painkillers so I had to dash out to the chemist. Why he couldn't have told me earlier I don't know. (He was quite bad but it seems better today. I'm not totally heartless!!)

I still LOVED it though. And cried.

Also have only just realised that we get Disney + upstairs too so might barricade myself in the bedroom and watch it again Grin

ellie2201 · 04/07/2020 18:18

I loved it and watching it again tonight!!! Sobbed through It’s Quiet Uptown as expected. It’s just brilliant.

Somevampsarehot · 04/07/2020 21:14

I also thought it might not be as good as it was in person because of the atmosphere, but the emotion from the actors floored me and made me feel 100 times more than I was expecting! Eliza's scream, and her gasp at the end, destroyed me. I loved both forms differently, but whichever way you watch it, it's one of the best musicals ever written!

ellie2201 · 04/07/2020 21:49

I just hope we’ll get to see it live again. It’s just too sad to think we won’t!

SinkGirl · 05/07/2020 09:15

I’m just beyond happy to get to see the original cast - something I’m always so sad I miss, especially with something like this. No one can top Daveed Diggs or Jonathan Groff in those roles. Absolutely amazing to actually see it.

I can’t believe someone thought it resembled am dram - have you seen much am dram?! Unfortunately I have, and a lot of student theatre in my uni days - there’s nothing am dram about this. Although I do understand if you haven’t seen a lot of live theatre then productions like this (cast on stage all the time, minimal set, no backdrops etc) might not necessarily be what you’d expect - DH has seen very few musicals and he struggles with this, although he did enjoy this. I’ve always loved productions like this though - I’ve always been more Brecht than Stanislavsky!

I was worried it would be disappointing but it’s definitely the best-filmed stage production I’ve seen.

The only worry i had which turned out to be true is that LMM just can’t keep up with the others (and the parts about how handsome he is make me cringe) - but I can’t begrudge him taking the lead role, I would want to as well if I’d written it 😂

ellie2201 · 05/07/2020 10:13

@SinkGirl I agree about LMM but I still enjoyed watching him and think he’s a genius!

This is an interesting read generally but there is a section about why LMM took the role of Hamilton.
