Please tell me I’m not the only one that will have to watch a few video recaps and possible the last episode of Season 2 before I get sucked into this world again.

Looking forward to seeing Jonas’ face again...

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/06/2020 22:51

That much is made clear in Season 2 anyway so I have not spoiled.

Rollergirl11 · 29/06/2020 23:18

👍thanks @EineReiseDurchDieZeit

Rollergirl11 · 02/07/2020 21:39

Well I’ve just watched the penultimate episode and still not really any the wiser. And I’m pissed off. Fed up of the million different timelines and the different worlds and the same people with different names and not knowing who is telling the truth and who is lying and if they want to stop the apocalypse or if they want to let it happen or if they want to untie the knot or complete the loop or if they belong to the light or the dark.

The first series was excellent and truly groundbreaking tv but it’s just got too convoluted. It literally makes my head hurt and I’ve stopped caring what the hell is going on. 😡🤷‍♀️

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 02/07/2020 22:02

Make sure you watch the last one.

I think it will come together

@User647647 can you please ask HQ for a Spoiler warning on this thread and then people can properly explain and debate stuff.

Rollergirl11 · 03/07/2020 20:59

Okay I’ve finished now. And I also asked MNHW to amend the subject to include spoilers. So who’s up for discussing?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/07/2020 21:04

@Rollergirl11

Are you still lost or did it come together for you?

Rollergirl11 · 03/07/2020 21:15

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit it did come together pretty much but it just threw up questions I had from series one that were unresolved. Like why was Noah killing all the boys and sending them back in time? I thought he was trying to find a way to travel through time but why was he when they had the wormhole and the box thingy? Noah being evil (which was definitely how he was portrayed in Series One) was never really touched on again.

SPOILER AHEAD

Also it seems logical to me that Jonas shouldn’t exist because he was a product of time travel with his Dad being Mikkel. But why should the same be for Martha? I assume that both Ulrich and Katrina existed in the origin so why not Martha, Magnus and Mikkel? Or did none of them exist either bar Katerina, who we see at the end?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/07/2020 21:28

@Rollergirl11

I can answer both these questions but with really long answers bear with me!

Rollergirl11 · 03/07/2020 21:37

In series one Noah seemed to have recruited and be grooming Bartosz to carry on getting the boys for him. Or so I thought. But why would he be doing that if he knows that Bartosz is his Dad?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/07/2020 21:38

Noah

Noah's birth name is Hanno. Parents : Bartosz and Silje.

As a young man Hanno is brought in to Sic Mundus Creatus Est and told he has a purpose : Elisabeth Doppler. When their baby is stolen, he realises Adam/Jonas has lied to him all along, out of desperation he steals the boys to try and get to where baby Charlotte is and get her back for Elisabeth. He then meets Elisabeth as a child, realises their Charlotte is her own mother and her loss cannot be undone. Loses it on Adam, and is shot by his sister Agnes, after he has murdered Claudia, the White Devil, because her goal is to save Regina, and in doing so she will eradicate both Elisabeth and Noah

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/07/2020 21:39

Noah was trying to turn his father against Jonas, but this was futile because Bartosz was always going to end up trapped in 1888

rosegoldwatcher · 03/07/2020 21:42

Jonas' mum Hannah went back to the 50s and had an affair with policeman Egon, which resulted in baby Silja.

Adult Silja went back in time to the 1800s and married Bortosz (also a time traveller.) Their children were Agnes and Hanno (Noah.)

Agnes produced Tronte who produced Ulrich and Mads.

Ulrich married Katherina and they had Magnus, Martha and Mikkel.

If there is no time travel Hannah can't go back and get pregnant with Silja.
No Silja = no Agnes = no Tronte = no Ulrich = no Martha or her brothers.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/07/2020 21:47

Why doesn't Martha live?

Martha's parents : Katherina and Ulrich Nielsen

Ulrich's parents : Jana and Tronte Nielsen

Tronte's parents : Agnes Nielsen and Martha's Unnamed Son

So Martha is her own Great Great Grandma, basically.

That is why those are the characters that are left at the end when Hannah is pregnant because the entire Nielsen family tree is gone.

Additionally, Katherina, Hannah and Regina are all friends because Ulrich didn't exist so Hannah didn't falsely accuse him of rape and they didn't isolate Regina and tie her up in the woods.

Rollergirl11 · 03/07/2020 22:22

Wow. How do you know all this??! Did you follow all that within the program or have you read up on it?

I didn’t really know who Silja was other than she married Bartosz and had Hanno and Agnes. And I certainly didn’t get that Tronte’s Dad with Agnes was Martha’s son ( the three with the hair lip?). When was that revealed?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/07/2020 22:41

Remember when he approached Tronte in the woods with the bracelet for his Mum but Tronte gave it to Jana not Claudia?

He is Agnes's previously unseen "abusive husband"

When Adam fried pregnant Martha in the ball he created the weird entity that exists simultaneously

Adam believes he must succeed by maintaining the status quo, and believes he will succeed by frying Martha, but nothing happens. In several timelines he then believes that he must kill Eve thats why she expects him, but he eventually realises this wont work either.

Eve's motive is in keeping their son alive

To further complicate Jonas' linear timeline begins in 1888 so by the 1920's "Stranger Jonas" has aged and has been burned so frequently, he has become the monster who believes that for him to succeed Martha must die. In fact neither realises they are just stuck in a time loop created by Tannhaus and it takes Claudia to figure this out. But she must get young Jonas to act because older Jonas is too warped.

Someone at some point (likely Noah) told 1950s Hannah, that she needed to help Jonas, and she used the suitcase to travel back to whatever year it is. Stranger Jonas now Adam recognises his sister as the girl his younger self met with Elisabeth in the apocalypse years, kills his mother, abandons his sister into the future, where she was raised by grieving Elisabeth, only to send her back to the past to seduce Bartosz and conceive Agnes and Noah.

Sija's parents are Hannah Kahnwald and Egon Tiedemann so Bartosz is his own great Grandfather

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/07/2020 22:42

Wow. How do you know all this??! Did you follow all that within the program or have you read up on it?

A mix.

Look at my username.

I am a bit sad Grin

Just to answer the question about Noah and why he was creating a time machine. The portable box time machine only exists because noah managed to build a time machine in the first place if that makes sense.
He groomed helge into helping him kidnap the children to test the machine. The machines sent the boys through time but killed them in the process. That is why mad's body appears in the bunker in front of Peter.
Each time this happens, Noah and Helge tweak the machine. The first successful time travel is when they sent young Helge back to 1953.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/07/2020 23:07

I mean its so German existentialism Grin

See the Genealogy map on the floor stops with Agnes is both worlds because after Agnes its

Agnes - Bartosz/Silje

and

Unnamed Triple Threat = Martha/Jonas

So Martha and Jonas kill each others second so that only one exists in each world (at several ages, but one entity)

They believe they are The Origin, The Meaning Of Life, hence taking on Adam and Eve mantels.

Only it turns out that neither of these universes is the primary, it's the third universe that their universe was created in due to Tannhaus fucking around which is the primary, and these two universes that loop are some sort of time accident.

So as it turns out their entire existence is an anomaly which never should have existed and to stop the endless cycle of trauma and death they need to annihilate themselves, because their existence is, and always has been futile.

Cheery German philosophy Grin

I know this is an old thread but just found it and wanted to say thanks for all the explanations! I'm in awe at those of you who worked it all out! I've just finished watching all 3 seasons and must admit there were times I had only a loose grasp on what was going on! Did get clearer at then end but only for some characters, I still couldn't work out what was going on with Charlotte/Elisabeth and Bartosz. Great series.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 21/07/2024 13:23

I can't make head or tail of my own explanations anymore! Time for a rewatch I think!
