Dark on Netflix--how scary?

I can deal with eeriness but not jump scares. Creepiness and violence is OK but I'm a bit of a wuss.

Just started Dark (in daylight!) but is it worth persevering? If it's an actual horror I'd better stop. The soundtrack is unnerving!

No you'll be fine. I hate horror but I've seen all of the episodes and it's okay. Bit creepy but not scary imho. It's really good and the next series is due soon. Enjoy...

Bluewavescrashing · 27/06/2020 16:23

Nearly at end of episode 1 and I'm quite scared 😳

Stranger Things is my limit on scariness and I loved that.

There are no jump scares, it's just spooky.

Bluewavescrashing · 27/06/2020 16:26

Why do kids always go into the woods at night?!

I'd say Stranger Things is scarier for sure. I'm such a wimp and seen both series.

Bluewavescrashing · 27/06/2020 16:45

Thanks! I will persevere! Desperate to find out what's going on.

It's not scary in the slightest

Doingtheboxerbeat · 27/06/2020 17:02

No way is this scary, but I do like to wait until Friday the 13th or halloween to watch horror movies all alone at midnight during a thunder storm or a howling wind with an escaped serial killer on the loose.

Bluewavescrashing · 27/06/2020 17:12

I fully admit I'm a wimp but it's pretty creepy.

@Bluewavescrashing, in all fairness the only scary thing about it is the music and the casting - the characters younger /older counterparts are terrifyingly similar, like they actually travelled in time to have them play themselves in various time jumps.

I'm watching it all again from season 1 but with english subs this time - so much easier.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 28/06/2020 03:34

subs I obviously meant dubs.

DieSchottin93 · 28/06/2020 23:40

There is a lot of creepy atmosphere scenes but it's not something I'd class a horror Smile and I can't even watch Doctor Who without getting a bit scared Blush Grin so you should be fine xD

4 episodes in now and enjoying it 😊

Not at all scary but very, very complicated and timey wimey. Just finished series 1 and can't wait to start the next one. Watch it with sub-titles. Much the best.

MaggieAndHopey · 01/07/2020 16:43

Just finished Season 3. Loved it. Loved all of it, loved everything about it. I absolutely horsed through all three seasons after starting it last week. One of the only shows I've seen where I've really made a strenuous effort to avoid accidentally spoilering it for myself - which was difficult, as I quite often needed to find episode recaps online so I could get things straight in my head. I feel like I'm dreaming in German now!

As you'll know by now OP it is quite scary in places but it's not really horror. It's sad and atmospheric and haunting, heavily confusing, with the occasional gory bit or jump scare. And it might give you the ol' existential chills too.

I agree, but I know some people struggle with subtitles - a friend of mine is dyslexic, for example.

Just finished season 3. Got a bit muddled this season as things seemed to be changed from what I knew but stick with it as it becomes clearer that there's a reason although someone had to explain early in as I was so confused I nearly gave up. Loved it though 😀

Thisisworsethananticpated · 26/07/2020 23:04

I struggled as it’s so .... well Dark ! For me I need to at least like a few characters and other than a couple of the teens I just didnt warm to anyone

SulisMinerva · 27/07/2020 20:10

I’ve just finished it. Loved everything about this show - superb acting, big existential questions, great soundtrack. I just want to watch it all again as I can’t stop thinking about it.
